I've not posted anything in a long time..... so here's one I shot last fall with some obvious compositing.

I'm not big on wildlife photos (like people shots, I can't do them) but this is absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks anotherscotsman, much appreciated.

I found the light in Zambia to be a significant challenge. Closer to the equator, the sun rose and set very quickly. It was also their dry season so cloudless skies all day made for very harsh throughout the day. But we did get lucky.

Late one afternoon we found a pride of 9 lions sheltered from the heat in a stand of trees and shrubs. It was about 40 C (104 F) so they weren’t going anywhere while we sat on them and waited for the sun to set and give us some nice light.

Sounds magical. Really enjoying your lions. My favourite big cat by far.

Hi Guys! Here's one from Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. I shot this in 2014 but only released it this month. Sometimes I have to let my photos incubate for a while!

Click to enlarge for the details...lots of tasty little details at this location.

Also, I just wrote an article on creativity that is bringing me a lot of really enthusiastic messages. People really seem to be connecting with it, so I thought I'd share the link here. "Five Valuable Lessons that I Learned in Art School", which you can read on the Photo Cascadia blog here: LINK.

So
I'd been wanting to try this for a while now (shooting only half a face), I've done it now. :)

So, will you go back later and do the rest? :)

Nice lighting as always and sublime eye detail.

One of my former bosses in Africa became the Prime Minster of Zambia, and he gave me a great tour of his country, you picked a nice place to visit.

Thats a fantastic honour. Nice story.

So on Friday I have an hour with the CEO of our company to talk strategy. It is a twice on a lifetime experience as I was flown to Dallas to meet Ross Perot in 2000. So I know it will not be as bad as I am making it in my head but...

Do I take my camera or not?

Lol... Hi Meg, Selfie!!!

I really like the 'gritty' texture of the landscape... some pp? Amazing!

Yes you have... dof, skin texture (love the bits on the lips), eye, hair... quite something.

Thanks AFB. I have to say that it was magical and an experience I'll always remember.

Lucky man. The people of Zambia are wonderful. They're warm, friendly, inviting and unassuming...a real pleasure to spend time with them and learn a bit about their lives and culture.

Thanks! If you're asking if the texture is related to anything I did in post, then no. My editing on this one entailed some careful tonal and color work, but the textures of the earth there didn't need any help from me to stand out.

A couple of firsts for me.....first time used the macro lens, and first post of a picture on MacRumors...
