Female Belted Kingfisher perched on one of the posts on the pier. These little birds move very quickly and often I'll hear her distinctive verbalized click-click-clack-click sound as she zips past, but don't see her. Yesterday I looked out the sliding glass door and saw her sitting there on that post, big as life. Whee! I knew, though, that if I grabbed the camera and opened the sliding door she'd be gone before I even stepped out on the deck. Instead, I used the RX10 IV with its long fixed zoom lens at 600mm (35mm equiv) inside the house, shooting through the glass door. In editing, I increased contrast by quite a bit, also increased resolution by using Gigapixel, and then was able to crop more deeply to enlarge the view of this small bird.

Some years ago when I first saw a Kingfisher I thought that the white spots were the eyes, and it was later that I learned that their eyes are actually black and hard to see. Fortunately there was a small catchlight in this one's eye and I also did a bit of "dodging" (old darkroom term for lightening exposure of an area) around her eye to make it a little more apparent in the image. Isn't she cute?

Our small town has a park area behind the City Hall complex that includes a walking track made of pavers and poured concrete. Then have engraved the dates and titles for important dates in the town, state and country's history into the pavers... so as walk along the circular track, you can learn about the history of the town, state and country... and in the center of this three-quarter mile track is a grassy area where people play, picnic and just sit and enjoy the sunshine.

Trailing cymbidium hybrid. Put outside in the shade most of the year, out of direct sun light. Put the watering can over them every day but ensure good drainage. Once night temperatures drop to about 5C, bring them in. This will be in full flower now for a couple of months. Look out for snails.

This is and old classic HDD?
It was some time ago when I saw one of those🙂
“Spinning rust” storage as they were coined in later days. They still have a purpose when access and rw speeds aren’t critical. Adding an ssd was one of the best ways to upgrade an old computer, but these days that’s all any of them have!
