Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary in May, 2006 and converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors, often exceeding 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.

Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Weekly Contest, and no winners (or losers) either.

Policies

*One Photo per Day - Don't post more than one photo each day.

*All photos should be your own work (unless special circumstances have been agreed).

*Multi-Quote - To comment on several photos, click the "+ (Multi-Quote) button. This puts all your comments in one post. Multi-Quoting is required on all of the MacRumors forums.

*SFW (Safe for Work) only - This is a site - wide rule. If you wouldn't show it in a public place, then it's NSFW (not safe for work). Think before you post.

*Describe your photo - Tell what it is and where you took it. If you know the EXIF data of a photo, include it. The following EXIF fields are recommended: Camera, ISO, Focal Length, Shutter/Aperture and Lens.

After successfully repairing my 135mm lens, got adventurist and pulled out a cheap ($50 back in the day) no name 400mm f6.3 full manual lens. Hadn't used for years due to clouding of the lens element, but thanks to the "T" adapter design, easily converted from Pentax "universal" screw mount of my original Mamyia/Sekor, then Nikon F and ultimately Canon FD mounts. Had to fully disassemble because the obstruction was on the internal side of the element. Even when fully out, wouldn't clean off. Believe the film was originally mold that dried. Ultimately, had to pull out a Dremel with a glass polishing pad. Since the lens was toast anyway, wasn't that big a risk.

A test shot after the cleaning - handheld @1/250 sec as screw is missing to tighten the tripod collar.

EDIT: Oops, replaced original posted pic of docks (re-post tomorrow) Since no EFIX, looked at my written notes and that was taken with the 135. The lillypads were with the 400mm. Scanning the negatives threw the entire numbering sequence off where this was negative #11, but scanned file #3.

The Shoe Station in Rice, Calif. It started years ago as a shoe tree in this abandoned town in the desert between Twentynine Palms and Vidal, with travelers on CA-62 tying their shoes to a small tamarisk tree. Then that tree burned down and people started throwing shoes on a nearby fence, which is still there, covered with thousands of shoes. Then the roadside art installation spread to this former gas island.
