Some 'poppies in the park' on my early-morning walk today -- first time I have actually seen petals on the plants located there (a local Municipal Park) -- an awkward location to catch different photo views, but sure enjoyed seeing what I could of the plants, the colours, et al.

Land of "Sound of Music" movie real-life people , moving to Stowe when escaping Austria at beginning of World War 2. You are in my childhood stomping grounds - love Vermont!!!!!
Vermont is spectacular - one of the most beautiful places on earth. I love it dearly for the clean air, views, food, hiking, etc... Just a special place, you're lucky!

I've been to the Von Trapp estate a few times, I'll post some pics this week. The views from the lodge are straight out of Austria - making it clear why the family chose Vermont.
(btw The Von Trapp brewery produces an excellent Dunkel, and the strudel is to die for!)

How'd you get so close to a calf? Weren't you concerned about the mama? Wonderful photo, as always; you have quite the ability to catch the essence within the images.
Thank you :)
This was taken in Cleveland National Forest on Laguna Mountain along a hiking trail.
The forest service also leases this land to small time cattle ranchers for grazing. The cattle seemed unbothered by hikers , and this little guy was just curious enough to come closer without protestations from mom.

It’s a lifebelt holder ;)

Cheers :)

Oh, ok. Thank you so much. Striking photo! .... Just looked it up! VERY cool - attached to land by rope and tossed to the "casualty" so can be pulled in. Fitted with lights for nighttime rescue. Great idea for safety near dangerous waters. And the equipment has many fun names (for me, as an american). And great photo op.

I see they must have these both in the U.S. and in England, because I looked up what they are called in England, thinking it was Hughmac who posted the photo! YEEKS. I wasn't joking when I said I had a heat-addled brain. I apologize for my confusion. I'm also sorry to hear about an increase in drownings. I hope these stations help.
