The hawk photo from yesterday was one of a group of males doing a courting dance air show. He headed toward this red-shouldered female preparing a nest. I don’t believe she was impressed, as he appeared to be sent packing.

The weather we've had lately has not been kind to the Tulip Magnolias that have been trying to bud and bloom. I checked the trees yesterday and most of the buds and beginning blossoms were damaged. Today's weather will probably destroy more of these delicate flowers. I did manage to find one relatively normal looking one about to open up, though:

No idea what this fuzzy guy is, and he's the only one I've seen in the 21 years I've lived in NC. He was crawling across the sidewalk leading to our deck.

According to Google Lens it's a larva of the white-marked tussock moth, Orgyia leucostigma. Nice fella.
