And its the one thing you can't upgrade!

So back on topic.
Another one from Bewdly. Couldn't quite get a composition I liked out of this. It looked lovely, but not sure it is conveyed in the photo.

Comments always welcome.

I would vignette this. At least the top. Draw the eye through the arch to the white flowers.

What kind of cards does Mrs. AFB make?

Thanks Ken. What are your genuine thoughts knowing that my graphics card only has the 512MB on it? Where would be the best bang for buck, I guess I'm asking here. Save my money and get a better machine when this one finally dies on me? Darktable chugs along quite nicely on this machine as it is, it's just the Adobe suite that lets the team down really.

Hi mate. 512mb is a bit small memorywise for graphics. I think a new rig is on the cards anyway at some point so start saving. In the interim I would consider the SSD option as a stop gap. Just know it is delaying rather than avoiding an upgrade.

Having said this, to be devils advocate again, consider spending money on a good display and maybe a windows rig there i said it! But... Then you can have flexibility to swap out components at a much more cost efficient rate in the future. I could build a windows rig for £500 that would out perform my macbook pro right now.

The downside is of course you have to deal with windows... :)

Way out of my comfort zone! I've heard to many nightmares.
Plus by the time you do the SSD and the graphics card I'm not sure its worth it. Especially if I can get a good price from work on something.

Beautiful lily by the way.
Ssd is a doddle... The hardest (and not really) is getting the screen off an iMac. The SSD is easy just do time machine, physical swap then restore from time machine.

Can't go back to the darkside mate. Ive ditched windows at work as well so I'm all in with MacOS these days. Just been looking through the :apple: refurb shop.
Do I need an outdated Mac Pro in my life? Well I'd rather wait it out for next years update.

Do you have issues waking it from sleep?

My friend uses an external drive for his boot drive and his machine crashes when waking from sleep. I am trying to work out why. Only thing I can think is it is not waking the drive in time for the OS to need it.

No issues on wake up at all - I usually let it sleep rather than power down and response to wake is almost instantaneous. It’s not an unusual upgrade for the 2011 iMac. I’m on El Capitan.

My iMac only has 256mb graphics  but I am such a poor editor of photos I suppose it gets by.

Cheers :)

Hugh
As does mine. OK I don’t do extensive post processing but with CO and Affinity I’ve never felt that things are slow or laggy. Largest images I use can be multi-image panoramas from up to 8 x 24mp raw files. Perhaps try a move away from Adobe?

A cousin is touring the east coast of the US visiting family and friends. I think it was more of an excuse to drive his beautiful car (with the top down of course weather permitting).

Love the stingray. Sounds like it might be the last front engine Vette, as car magazines have spy shots of a mid-engine mule in the wild. Makes sense at this point, as the Camaro has gotten so good that Chevy needs to separate the Vette into a next level supercar.

I don't know though. Having driven this car I gotta say that it is really, really nice. Nice looking (admittedly subjective), fast, and 30 mpg on the highway. Car continuously get better over time.
I'm more of a German engineering fan tbh. American cars just don't really do it for me.

German engineering over American? Yes thats a safe bet!
Track numbers are not so different, but they really are different beasts with substantially different price tags. Corvettes are more attainable, which to a degree diminishes their appeal. Here in the States, I’ve seen far more Corvettes in my days than Porcshes, Lamborghini’s, and Ferrari’s combined. When I see one of the latter, it’s a very rare occasion to take in. As great as they look, I know I’ll see another C7.

And don’t forget about eccentric Elon and Tesla!

I can certainly respect that (says the person whose last two cars have been German). I will probably always have a soft spot though for an American V8 engine. The sounds it produces are so good and the power of it can be quite thrilling which in the end provides its own brand of excitement. :)

I dug up a few rolls of Kodak Ektar 25 a while back. I sold most of them, but shot the oldest of the bunch just to have the experience of shooting it.

This particular roll expired in 1989. I actually had pretty high hopes for it as it had been cold stored. I should have shot it at EI 12, but otherwise it looks pretty decent. The color shifted some and the negatives were a bit thin, but it wasn't bad.

Ektar 100 is in every way a better film, but it also has 20+ years of development behind it. I'm not a big color negative shooter, but Ektar 100 remains one of my favorite C-41 films. It's very much worthy of the "Ektar" name.

This was shot in a Nikon FM2N. I think this photo was with the generally awful 18-35 f/3.5-4.5 zoom, which is in my kit specifically because it's a lightweight ultra wide that is compatible with manual focus cameras and that-unlike the 14-24-can be filtered. I've looked at the 17-35, but it's $$$ and heavy(the 16-35 is out because it loses MF compatibility).
