This was my first attempt to shoot a "big" moon with a long telephoto lens. I was standing on the side of a busy interstate (I-25) with my Canon R5 and a Sigma 150-600mm with a 1.4x teleconverter (so 840mm) on a Sirui Carbon Fiber tripod. I got to my planned shooting location while there was still plenty of light and focused on the antenna at the top of Sandia Crest. Since my hyperlocal distance was much closer to my location (the antenna were 10 miles away), I knew if I focused on those towers, the moon would be acceptably sharp also. Then I just waited for the moon to pop up from behind the mountain. I took several shots as the moon rose. This was the one I felt was best.

Wow. Amazing pic. I need to get those 600 mm lens. I have a 300mm, and love it.

that's why I use Kennedy and not LaGuardia airport - at LGA you see water below you, then tires screech, then tarmac becomes visible. too close for me.
I took off from LGA on an earlier flight just before the one which landed on the Hudson. Same type of plane, same airline, same runway, same departure over the Hudson. I was on my way from Rochester NY to Washington DC. I sat at the back of the plane near a group of flight attendants. When we touched down at National, the attendant sitting across from me turned on her phone and yelled she had 10 messages from her mother, then another said we just had a crash. I pulled up my news app on my iPhone and showed them the famous photo of the plane on the water with people standing on the wing. I asked is this your plane? All four attendants looked at the photo with relief.

Amazing shot! 😳🙌🏼

I have the Sigma 150-600mm then combine it with a 2X teleconverter, absolutely love that lens! I do need a bigger, more sturdy tripod though.
