I have tried several of the options mentioned in this thread using the cloud, wireless drives, etc and it is just too frustrating and I just go back to doing everything on my computer where things are straightforward, fast and easy to do. All of the things that annoy and slow me down on the iPad are limitations in iOS which is a shame because the hardware is certainly powerful enough. Here is to hoping iOS 13 gets rid of some of these limitations, though I'm not really holding my breath.

In my earlier posts I talked about giving iPad-only a try, using a variety of tools/devices. I did do it but found that for any significant number of RAW images that while the approach worked it was just too inefficient. So, I'll be off traveling again shortly and I'm back to taking my laptop (lightweight Dell XPS with QHD+ display) with me. The iPad goes too but it will be there as a consumption device. For short trips the iPad-only approach can work for me as I'll wait to get home to do most of the processing but on a longer trip I'll take the laptop.

It's a real shame that they have gimped iOS the way they have. Let's hope it changes in the next version. I love editing photos in Lightroom on my iPad Pro but as you mentioned it only makes sense if you have a small number of photos to edit.

What Mike said. Plus there is a strong likelihood that iOS 13 later this year will open up usb-c and allow connecting an external HD to the ipad pro. At least Federighi hinted as much at a recent Q&A.

I wouldn’t trust ‘hints’. If he had said it then sure. If the ability to attach external storage is a must wait until it exists.

Yeah, I wouldn't count on it. At any rate, I'll be sticking with my 2017 10.5" iPP - it's in excellent condition and prices have gotten too high to warrant an upgrade even with USB-C storage support; I can continue to use my laptop as needed for photo processing on the road.

This has been a great thread with a LOT of useful information.

Now, as a photographer, my Macbook Pro goes everywhere I go. When I leave a photo shoot, I have have several thousand photos to go through. For me, it's just easier to connect my SD card to my MBP and import them all into Lightroom for processing.

However, over the past year I've really gotten into mobile photography. With the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, I have Lightroom CC on my iPad (along with other photography apps). While I don't like that LR can't directly access files outside Adobe, importing them into LR, editing them and then saving to camera roll isn't that bad as far as mobile photography. Yes, several thousand would be a pain. However the RAVPower does work great.

I also picked up one of these (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074NM3ZXS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, the dual drive version) and a couple of SSD's and have a pretty fast photo storage device.

Hi Guys
How do you import RAW files to your iPad?
I am trying to use the Apple USB-C to SD adapter to import CR3 files from SD card to Photos but it’s not working.
I do get the notification that images are loaded to iPad but I cannot edit those images. Seems that it’s uploading just some kind of small preview file.
