There was no reason for dumping everything in one pane. A redesign for the sake of a redesign. Some of the new features make sense (like auto 'trips' collections) but the UI implementation is horrible. Too much clutter and repeats of things. "Favorites" is now a "Collection" but I can only choose to add it to the "Pinned Collections" section or in the carousel? This was not thought out, this needed to spend more time in the design lab. What were they thinking.

This is why you don't outsource for cheap labor

Almost all the new design they showed off (especially the Apple Intelligence stuff) is really uninspired. The Apple Intelligence logo, colors/gradients, and general UI look like a Microsoft product (saw someone on twitter say this too). Really really poor showing of design this year from Apple. The tinted icons also look garbage.

What happened? Did they mass hire from Microsoft or something?

Once they get to around beta 6 or 7, big design changes and features are locked. It's just bug fixing from then on. Want to complain now? Feedback feedback feedback. Photos has me worried as I don't use my iPhone to arrange my albums. It's all on my Mac and there are some pics I don't want to hide that are in my recents. I want that grid gone.

I do like being able to customize and rearrange the sections, but there’s a lot of clutter by default on one page IMO. I went down to the bottom, tapped Customize, and unchecked a bunch of the sections. Still cluttered but slightly improved.

Ill learn my way around it i guess. One thing though. I cant figure out how to select multiple images from the gallery area to mass delete them. The old button labeled select is just gone! it is there in album and sections views or maybe they’re called category views (like screen shots) but i cant for the life of me figure out how to do this in the main view. Image from apples site. Theres a search button but no select.

edit: figured it out. Swipe down on the big gallery view and the select button returns. Its like opening an album. It has an x, select, and search button in that view. Still bit of a mess of an app

I feel like the interface looks too cluttered and unApple-like. It's almost like a situation where it wasn't really broken and Apple decided to fix it.

This is one I think might really upset people. I have family members complain every time they update software that it’s change just for change sake. This seems like one of those cases. Was anyone really complaining about the photos app?

It feels like they put everyone's idea into a hat then just decided to implement all of them.
Seriously. A great gallery app is all my albums and that's it. I don't want slideshows, movies, suggestions...none of that nonsense. Ugh!

Edit: So at the very bottom if you tap "customize", you can remove all the clutter. I just shutoff a bunch of it and it's now clutter free! I like the look and feel of it now it's not so busy

Totally agree. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

One of the most irritating design choices is that the main library and some other 'collections' put the newest photos at the bottom like you would expect yet some other 'collections' put the newest photos at the top. Regular albums? Newest at the bottom. Shared albums? Newest at the top. It's very inconsistent, this is the kind of thing you're ordinarily told to avoid in UX design.

Is that whole "clean up" feature in the beta release? It doesn't seem to show. Also, when I activate Siri I can't get the cool glow around the phone, just the normal circle at the bottom. Underwhelming so far.

AI features are coming later this summer.

The new calculator is literally an Android App with a hamburger menu and weird animation lol

Seems you can categorise you photos into the following pre-defined categories. Same we can’t define our own. I’m missing things like: Work, Birthdays, Holidays, Cars, etc etc

  • Recent Days
  • People & Pets
  • Pinned Collections
  • Memories
  • Trips
  • Featured Photos
  • Albums
  • Shared Albums
  • Media Types
  • Utilities
  • Wallpaper Suggestions
