Why are the objects in the background out of focus? I’m noticing this on quite a few shots ...

That photo was taken in normal mode, guessing it gives it a bit of a portrait mode effect so it can focus more on the subject you’re shooting, don’t mind it, can see how some people might not like it though.
If you're quite close to the subject you'll get the background out of focus even without portrait mode because the depth of field will be narrow if the subject is close, so the background will be out of focus.
If you play around with the depth of field calculator here by entering different subject distance figures (doesn't matter what camera model you select, just don't change the aperture and focal length figures) you'll see what I mean. Look at the DoF near and far limit figures to see the changes in the nearest and furthest objects from the lens that are in focus at different subject distances: the depth of field gets narrower the closer the subject is to the lens.

I had a friend that picked the shrooms off a deep dish pizza I made once. The next time he was over and I made pizza, I hid extra shrooms under the cheese. It was loaded with them😆🍄🍄🍄. Apparently that was more than enough to get the message across. With so much negativity, I was relieved when he declined to come over for the next party, and we drifted apart. Imagine, someone hating shrooms that much, and not being allergic to them. (I should say that he had eaten shrooms many times in my presence, so I was getting a little offended that he just didn't like MY shrooms. The poor guy. Yikes

He ATE mushrooms fine, and all of a sudden, he's making a scene, picking them off, and digging them out? I grew to be offended. If you don't like what I slaved over for a party, don't sit there and pick the stuff apart. Am I wrong? *shrug* Drama, over shrooms? Weird...

The shroom emoji look like those 'magic' kind, I think. I've never actually seen any. The pizza shrooms were just larger standard ones, usually. I use fresh mushrooms sometimes. It's 'artsy'. I did use morel mushrooms once, and wouldn't recommend it. Too 'earthy'.
