While going from 1GB to 2GB of RAM gave me a really nice improvement in performance, yes it does still chug along with high resolution files. It's not nearly as bad with small stuff, but still painful if you're doing a lot of work.

And I agree, no point in buying PowerPC-based Mac anymore unless you need something immediately to run a program that's not universal yet.

don't bother using the macbook pro for photoshop, it's not worth it! I have 2Gs of ram, and it is still painfully slow....

Thanks for all your answers, looks like I won't be avoiding Boot Camp after all :(. But am sure all the other goodies will make up for that!

Less than an hour left to pick up my MBP!! :p :D

You'll love your MBP in just about every other way :)
If you do photography at all, I suggest Aperture. It has its fans and also has people that hate it... but I think it's prett cool for photo managament, and since it's Universal now it runs quite well.
