Photoshop for iPad?

What do you guys think of that idea? I know theres already Photoshop for iPhone, but it's.... lacking to say the least. I think it would be a great idea for Adobe to make a Ps version for the iPad. Be as close as the regular Mac version as possible. Maybe loose some features not everybody would use like HDR and some other stuff to keep the size down. Theres already iWork for iPad, why not a full Photoshop?
 
If nothing else, I could see an "elements" style application using the Photoshop name. There are quite a few iPhone apps that allow for image manipulation, but a lot of them seem to be fairly limited in functionality. I'd imagine that someone will take advantage of the extra horsepower the A4 allows for.
 
I would think that iPhoto optimized for the touch interface would just bury anything that Adobe could come up with. Adobe products are very capable but they're almost universally resource hogs and Adobe has zero experience with a touch interface. I wouldn't hold my breath for this app.
 
iPad is a very simple computer for everyday use so I don't think so. A professional artist won't find the iPad suitable for ordinary work anyway. A "mini" version of Photoshop for hobbyists makes sense though.
 
i would love to get a photoshop variation with most of its tools (layers, cloning & stamp, cropping, filters, marquee, etc) intact. that would be amazing! a lightroom version for photographers would also be very nice. i think the closest that we have on the iPhone is PhotoForge (just emailed the developers to see if they plan on doing one for the iPad although Adobe getting in the game would be very interesting as well)

come on developers/Adobe!
 
I'm sure we will eventually see a Photoshop lite or equivalent for on the go basic image manipulation

But for full power Photoshop, I'd rather use my MBP

yup. definitely agreed. i think the iPad app would be more of a sketching of ideas sort. not basic, not pro quality (although that would be desired), but something that you wouldnt mind showing clients as a work in progress or design concept prior to working on it fullscale.
 
If Adobe's iPhone Photoshop is any indication, I wouldn't trust them to come up with anything useful for the iPad. But who knows, maybe with the bigger screen of the iPad, they'd take the effort more seriously than they did with the iPhone. So that we don't have to hold our breath, there are some Photoshop-like applications for the iPhone that are likely to make iPad versions: PhotoForge and Photogene are two of them.
 
Everyone keeps talking about Lightroom "lite". I agree that not every function would translate well to the iPad, but getting as close to a full set of features should be Adobe's goal. I for one think that most of my image editing (cropping, vignette's, and other slider options) would translate perfectly to the iPad. I would love to see this and would absolutely put the iPad in another level of productivity for me.
 
I don't necessarily want to edit my images on the iPad, I would prefer viewing raw files and tagging images, maybe deleting bad images. I have a large screen at home for my larger raw files to edit.

i guess apps like these are meant for those whom enjoys the portability that comes with doing rough edits on the go. like some mentioned, the closer we can get to the actual software would be nice but i doubt anyone expects it to replace desktop editing

I'm with you on this one. Can you imagine showing a client some of thier shots on this thing? It's perfect for that. Editing would not be ideal for me, but I would like to be able to delete from it. Also, can you imagine an app that would let you use it like a Wacom tablet? Not sure if it's possible but hooking it up to my MBP and draw on this would be incredible. Whishful thinking maybe?
 
You could do a full fledged workable PS with a stylus. Using your finger to draw would be kinda bizarre.
 
didnt they nake an online version of PS in flash? :p

itd be nice to be able to edit images, add text and crop stuff if you were laying out ideas for a website or other design medium, as honestly having an iPod Touch MBP and iMac it sort of sits askew that can be done with either of the machines but if i didnt have a MBP it may make more sense.
Id just be curious ow theyd organize a font library on the ipad and imorting images over.

unless there will allow of opening up the dock connector for other input devices such as external drives and devices other than a Sd card slot and camera connector.
 
It would need to be very stripped-down if it's going to run fast.

The iPad's raw power probably compares with a G3 (guessing).
 
The capacitive surface of the iPad is not made for fine, detailed movement. And once you start thinking about attaching pointing devices (if you even could), you're better off using a more powerful laptop anyway, as the A4 processor doesn't handle displaying large image files well (think Sony A900, Canon 5DMKII etc. d-slr RAW files). iTunes resizes JPEGs down before transferring to the iPad for a reason.

I think it would be good for culling and maybe cropping images dumped directly from a camera, but that's about it. However, that may be enough for a lot of people.

the iPad... has its limits. :eek:
 
With no camera on the device, I don't really see the point. I guess maybe if you use the camera connection kit but I'd clean them up on the desktop before transferring to the iPad. But that's just me I guess, I'm kinda anal about my pics. I have several photo editing apps on my iPhone though but didn't see a need to have them on the iPad too.

It's not designed for the same functionality in the same way a laptop is.

Apple did an excellent job when they fulfilled the "We don't want to make a netbook that sucks" statement from a year or so back. The Ipad just doesn't let you do the same things you can ATTEMPT on a netbook, like the morons (I worked part time in a BBY when netbooks first got introduced) who try to edit movies or play games and then complain when it's horribly slow or refuses to run.

Ipad just doesn't have the ability to run anything other than iPad apps.

Don't get me wrong, I love it and want one, I think it was a great idea to do this.
 
I think we are now getting into an area where is iPad is a bit over matched. I feel the iPad is a limited "creation" device and personally believe photo editing is one area that belongs on a platform with full capability, utilizing a properly equipped laptop or desktop.
 
I have PhotoPad - a basic photo editor for the iPad. I have only played with it so far, but it looks like it will do a decent job.
