Is that really the most important factor to you? LOL, only because you listed in four times.

Might I ask why it's so important? Even Dell Adamo XPS is thinner than .5" and 10mm thick. If Apple cannot win thin, is it really that important?

Are you willing to give up performance and battery life to achieve that? How about display, would you be willing to go down to a 10" display? Would you give up aluminum and go with carbon fiber to both narrow and thin by miniaturizing the whole MBA?

Would a .5" MBA be powerful enough to be a MacBook first and an ultraportable second like it currently is?

I cannot say I care about .5" thickness as much as I care about weight. I feel the MBA is perfect now, but thinner and less weight could be great!

I hope we all get exactly what we want... a Core i7 CPU, ATI dedicated graphics (1GB Memory), 8 GB RAM, 10-hour battery, OLED HD 1600x900 display, glass trackpad, 256GB Intel SSD using a SATA-III connector (no more LIF), BluRay External drive option, better speakers, digital output, USB 3 x 4 ports, LightPeak, FireWire 3200, mDP, eSata (and all ports hide within a tray that closes), that runs at 10 degrees celsius, that has a top case made from black aluminum and bottom of carbon fiber. It could provide cooling for our legs during the Summer months. I am sure that isn't going to happen, but wouldn't it be great? All for a price of $499 to compete with the iPad? Okay, how about $1499?

agreed and I'd happily throw 5k down for it and feel like I ripped off apple! :)

LMAO, I have said that I would dump $5k for the ultimate MBA and people criticized me... but I am with you. I want the options to get as much as I want from my MBA. I really don't get why Apple isn't taking advantage of us MBA buyers who would gladly pay more?

Apple used to focus on incremental BTO options to increase its margin and revenues... I don't get why we don't have that with the MBA. Two options with HDD or SSD and a slight CPU difference. I would guess that the target MBA market buyers are willing to pay more than the target MBP market. It's the MBAs that Apple dumped that are being used for secondary computing. Of course Apple realizes that.

Many have said the iPad will eliminate the need for the MBA. I think exactly opposite, as the iPad will ensure Apple focuses the MBA as being a primary Mac capable computer. The MBA should get more capabilities with its next update with options for us to spend more of our money, as there's no longer a need for Apple to keep the price down as a secondary Mac substitute. However, for those who don't want an iPad or do want full Internet (including Flash) the MBA will still be available and that's why a range of prices with many BTO upgrade options would do best in my opinion. The iPad has saved the MBA from going cheaper and less powerful. It ensures the primary focus will be on those of us wanting to use our MBA as our primary Mac.

I agree fully, the MBA can be leveraged as a primary machine easily and in fact for myself & my wife it is. My work area has a usb hub with all my necessary peripherals attached to it as well as an external larger monitor to plug in my MBA if I so desire the "work" mode. But for the majority of it's use (leisure) I carry it around the house or with me on travels. I have 3 power adapters to maintain low battery cycle's. One in my designated "computer" room, living room and bedroom. The machine being so light and with "adequate components" is the machine I always dreamt of.

Paying a premium on something so light and powerful especially in a machine that can act as a replacement to any device in a small form factor is very empowering!

For the iPad I will not be getting it although my wife is as she often sat with the idea of getting a kindle and apple gave her what she wanted a superb e-reader and much much more! Although she's slightly disappointed she won't be able to play her bejeweled on facebook... although apps are available she like's the competition she has with friends on it... (Woman) :)

Also for clarification I had considered going with a runcore which I agree should be a MUST! However I want to save my $$ to see what the next revision will be as it "should" be soon.... If I can get a 256 Gb SSD instead that make me much more happy especially with running Win 7\Mac OS X and all the programs that I have for both.

Maybe apple will eventually cater to our "niche".

That is spot on, espcially converting to UK prices. The Mono speaker is disgusting, reminds me of the early mobile phones blasting out Tinny McTinTin sounds. And £15 for a remote these days, they do give with one hand and take with the other.

The MBA is still, after years, teetering on specs as a primary computer for me.
