It looks that way even on the device itself, but is just as evident on a monitor as well.

Is there a way to tone back the noise reduction algorithm?

Yes, photograph and raw and then use something like LR to post process the raw file. :p

You have to remember that all cell phone sensors are tiny in the big realm of things and as such produce a lot of noise.
Take some photos in raw and look at the unprocessed file in LR or your app of choice and you’ll see the amount of noise the sensor produces.
Most people are completely intolerant of any noise thus most cell phones apply a ton of noise reduction at the cost of lost detail. This makes the vast majority of people happy.

Portrait mode (rear camera, obviously) ... I think we lost some of the hair on the bottom right but overall pretty good.

I’m new to live photo, I randomly takes photo to test the camera and some how it made it to a live photo rather than a still photo. How do I disable it?

Tap on the circle icon in the camera app (too centre). If it’s yellow, then Live Photos is activated, if it’s white then it is disabled.

Any benefits to live photos?
They're fun, they give you a chance to capture moments just before a press of the shutter (think, lightning strikes, that sort of thing) and if you live in a country where the iPhone makes a ridiculous shutter sound even if it's on silent mode (Japan and Korea, for example) the shutter sound is MUCH more discreet than a non-Live Photo. ;)
