I can't believe it's come to this. Maybe this is a sign that the Picture Gallery has reached its death? ;)

the UK should update there wall socket to something that isn't so big and bulky maybe go with the A/B, that North America is using and lower there voltage to 120v the same us the U.S. is using so they don't have to worry about changing voltages, and socket plugs, so they can have the latest electronics right away since they will be using the same voltages and socket plugs and it will save them some money too.

A young industrial designer created a neat folding version not long ago. Not sure if it made it into production.

Well I still think they should change it to US socket, and voltage so in the long run they don't have to wait to do a version of the UK voltage and socket of the latest stuff.

Why?
How about north america changes to the UK standard .
UK's are huge. I wouldn't mind switching to the smallest grounded one but I imagine the N/A already has that. Besides, I'd miss the face.

I'm surprised that Japan doesn't have a grounded standard. For such a techno culture that's a slight oversight, no?

Sarcasmville.
Actually I did know that. I'm curious who came up with the design, or who borrowed it from who...I mean that can't be the only way to make a 240v plug. Time for a google hunt.

Well, I haven't done any searching, but I suspect that plugs are different to prevent any damage to appliances designed for different electrical outputs. But if the electrical output is the same, then the plug could in essence be the same design.

I'm sure rewiring every single house, shop and factory in the UK, changing the transformers in every sub-station to supply the new lower voltage and in the process rendering billions of current appliances obsolete would save the UK a fortune.
