I don't know that much about cars, but why would a car not take "premium fuel"? I assume by this you mean products like Shell V-Power?

Because it does not require it. There are minimum octane ratings that a vehicle requires.

Please tell me that you understand at least that if you have your drivers license, if not you could be wasting a lot of money or doing some damage to your vehicle...

Putting premium fuel in a car that does not require certainly won't hurt it.. but it might be a waste of money.

Just picked up my "new" car today. 2000 Cadillac Seville STS. 54k miles, fully loaded minus Nav and sunroof. These cars are super cheap on the used car market, and represent a great value in the luxury car market.

Many cars meant to run on regular run crappy on premium.

And vice versa. The computer in my car is tuned for premium. Running anything less than that and you will get worse gas mileage. So worse mileage = filling up more = spending as much or more than premium. Might as well follow the manufacturers recommendations and run premium.

Picked it up last month. Love it ...

What a hideous monster of a car. Oh well, I'll take pleasure in knowing you pay around four times the amount of road tax that I do and you are only getting a couple of seconds better 0-60. Looks like you needed that too, with your rural house and all that dirt it's covered in with your off road driving.

So, I've pretty much convinced the wife to get a minivan, and then I find no pictures on minivans in this thread. So either (1) Mac users don't drive minivans, or (2) minivan owners are too embarrassed to post the pictures. So which is it?

Why do you want a "minivan" instead of a regular car?

Bit of a snotty way to greet a new member and one day you will work out the 0-60 really doesn't matter. So what car do you drive neiltc13?

Darrenm - Nice car, guessing as it's a diesel you'll get a pretty decent MPG.

Haha, he wishes. Parkers says 27mpg.

I've had almost double that from my car which is made by Smart.

Know what'd be awesome? If you NEVER posted again. The q7 is hardly billed as some offroad force to be reckoned with. It's meant to be a good looking people carrier. I'm pretty sure that's what the poster wants to use it for.

And honestly? Youre touting your Smart badge?

I've never seen an Audi Q7 with more than 2 people in it.

Not really. Every modern car senses lower grade gas and changes the engine timing. The engine will run fine, but you just probably get what- 1mpg less and slightly reduced power.

So is that Q7 27 Imperial MPG, or US MPG? Even after the conversion i'm still stuck on how European cars/SUV's get such better fuel economy than the same models in the US.

which is about what I get from my "normal" car.

why haven't you posted a picture of your car? If you are going to make comments about other peoples it's only fair for them to see what you drive.

Plus, if I were in an accident I'd rather it be in a Q7 than a smart car. It's not all about MPG you know.

if its with another sedan id rather be in a smart, so i dont have to worry about how dangerously unsafe the suv vs (insert not an suv here) impacts are for the other party. anything else id take the q7.
anyhow to the person id quoted earlier, just because you havent seen a q7 with more than 2 people in it doesnt mean it hasnt been used for that purpose. even if it HAS only been used for carrying two people, who are you to say if that was a wise investment for them. Maybe gas prices arent a big deal (esp if you drive a 60 thousand dollar SUV) for this poster.

It bugs me when people have a go at 4x4 (suv to our American friends) owners without knowing why they have one. Even if the reason is they just wanted one. It seems the hip thing to do at the moment is to slag off 4x4s

Oh and $60,000... you are joking, the version of the Q7 posted costs over £41,000 ($82,000) - it's on British plates, so guessing bought in the UK - without adding anything to it.

I posted pictures of my car earlier in this thread and I really do love it. It's a lot of fun to drive and it gets great fuel economy. It has a 0.7 litre turbocharged 3 cylinder engine which I've managed to get 50mpg out of (that's about 41mpg in American language).

Sure, it's not the quickest car on the road - 0-60 takes 10.9 seconds but it handles incredibly well and has been reliable so far. The speed is even less of a concern when you consider what other road users here have. Plenty of people drive superminis which can take up to 15 seconds to get to 60 and it's relatively uncommon for family sedans to have anything over a 2L engine. Many have 1.6 or 1.8 litres.

It has an electric folding soft top, heated leather seats and 16" alloy wheels. I added an aftermarket Sony head unit which has full iPod support and it works great. The only thing that I wish mine had is the paddle shift gears on the steering wheel but these cost upwards of $1000 to add.

Anyway, here's a few pictures:

If Parkers is right about the Audi, that's 27mpg imperial, which is around about 21mpg US.

It's nice that you love your car, as I'm sure the guy who just got the Q7 loves his. There was just no need for the comments you made about it been "a hideous monster of a car"

I'm sure I'm not alone in my opinion though. I see a lot of 4x4 hate when I'm driving around where I live, whether it be people stealing parking spaces from those driving these giant vehicles or general discourtesy, it seems to happen a lot.
