So my girlfriend was walking home from work today, and she passed the at&t store on Broadway and 8th st. in Manhattan, and saw a big iPhone banner in the window. Of course once she told me, I ran down and got some pictures of it. I attached a few.

The one in my town just got the same thing, along with a new AT&T sign.

A real fanboy would've stolen the poster.

A real fanboy would've stolen the poster.

That's tomorrow!

Speaking of that, one of the employees in there was giving me weird looks the whole time...as if it's not going to get 10x worse when they get the actual things in!

Those posters look like ATT designed them. They're missing a certain fit and finish of Apple design.
I doubt that Apple said to AT&T, "uh, the huge posters in the front, yeah you go ahead and design um."

They're Apple designed. Plus, they could be temporary since there are no additional program icons (i.e. no surprises). We'll probably see new ones upon release.

The elusive extra icon seems to be missing from these posters...

It's there, but it's just a black square, with black text below it, so, ya know...

I'm hoping beyond all hope that its a Nike+ app, I just bought some shoes but don't want to buy a nano

That would be good, would be easy to have on it too, but why would that be such a big secret...

Many people jog with $399 ipods $299 shure headphones and $499 blackberry pearls (retail price)...of course I don't but I do jog with a $15,000 vacheron watch. It's not like we are jogging while holding a 6 pound baby jesus.

What if the extra app was just some kind of debugging tool, not a real app we're all going to get?

Which icon? The bootcamp for CE icon?

"Games" icon anyone? Apple: Solitaire, Chess, and Brickles/Arkanoid would be a very obvious and easy choice for a touch upgrade. <--- Prediction of the month. It is the only thing that is found on all iPods, Macs, and cell phones and isn't pictured on the iPhone.

A real fanboy wouldn't have a girlfriend. Still, nice work!

If it makes a difference, I got the biggest eyeroll EVER when I told her I was going to take a picture. Then I got it again when I came back with 30.

I asked several Apple reps at Macworld about this, and they were all very coy with their answers. The general consensus at Macworld seemed to be that most people wouldn't want to go running with a $500+ phone... that remains to be seen. I would do it (but I'm not most people).

My original Macworld report about Nike+ on the iPhone is here.

:)

GF: Where are you going out this late at night with that camera again?

Slap: Err...I....well...

GF: Is there something you want to tell me?

Slap: I'm.... going to take pictures of an iPhone banner. Yes, that's it. Exactly. iPhone banner. Yes...

She must get suspicious sometimes ;)

this marketing campaign seems eerily reminiscent of the PS3. letting the product sell itself without much fanfare, buildup or media coverage. of course, we know how that situation played out. let's hope the supply rumors are true or apple is in-for-it if they don't have the readiness of 3M units in the pipe.

let's see some review units out there, even with apple representation, explaining things - ballparking features on the morning tv shows, going to dj's, etc. if the supply is there, they can totally provide promo copies to selected people, get the buzz going. the buzz is there for the fanboys and purists, but i'm going to summer school at UM (Univ of Miami) right now and no one seems to know about the launch or care - they're just happily texting away.

i don't want my favorite computer-maker to die because they were too tight with the info on a cellular product launch.
