One of the things that has impressed me with the camera system on my iPhone 14 Pro is the ability to utilise the combo of higher MP count and optical zoom/telephoto to get an enhanced and much improved telephoto picture.
I was photographing my eldest son's football (soccer) game last weekend and was able to take 6x zoom photos that came out at least as good as a dedicated point and shoot pocket camera.
It's become a far more useful and versatile camera than ever before.

The telephoto lens is still on 12 MP or did you take a 48MB picture with the main lens and zoomed it afterwards?
I used the main camera at 1x, then zoomed in to 6x - it appeared to give the impression of using both cameras overlaid, to be honest. There was a noticeable snap at 3x, as it went from digital to telephoto/optical zoom.

Not sure that's how they work, but it was a good result nonetheless.

Increasingly surprised by the detection quality of Portrait Mode. It recognized the handles of the bags and the spaces between the arms! Unbelievable!

Funnily enough, that's something I have noticed too - especially with things like spokes on my bike and the spaces between handlebars and cables - used to get weird missing pieces and strange artefacts, but it's looking more and more like a "proper" camera system now.

Exactly! It's funny to see this evolution and Apple doesn't even comment or make an announcement about it. With each update, it's better!

iPhone 14 pro max with Beastgrip beastcage and their new 1.7x telephoto lens attached. The two images are the same, one is with a polarizing filter, the other is without it. Huge difference! I use the polarization filters on my Sony camera, the same filter works fantastic on the iPhone.
