Pip on iPhone (photoshopped screenshots)

I'm submitting a feature request for pip on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus (as I'm hoping you guys will as well). In doing so I decided to photoshop screenshots to show Apple that this actually would work pretty well. The screenshots are meant for iPhone 6 and I highly recommend you download them and see how they look on iPhone 6. Also feel free to create your own screenshots and post them here!

Note: Don't feel like you can't make a screenshot like this because you don't have photoshop. I did it using photoshop mix for iPhone, which doesn't work on iOS 9 . Because of this I simply borrowed my dads phone .

The iPad Air 2 is the only device with 2gb of ram that even has access to these features because of this. Thus the only device these features can appear on for now.

To put those images in perspective for the iPhone 6....

This is almost certainly the reason, that PiP is a couple of centimeters wide, literally. It'd be really tiny on the iPhone 6. Considering Apple (at least they always used to be) is all about user experience, even if it did function on 1gb of RAM, it's unlikely it was a good user experience.

The iPhone 6+ is a different story and I really wish they'd enable it on there.

I believe the point of PiP is so you can mid video respond to something elsewhere (email, text or quickly browse the web for something) and still hear the audio and at least still see the video while doing this and return back into full screen after. It's not really meant to watch an entire video in PiP.

I used PIP on my 6 Plus when it was jailbroken and I never liked it. Most people only would use PIP to do something quick while having the audio of the video continue to play so that they didn't have to pause. PIP is totally useless to watch the video unless on a full size iPad. Apple should just force video's audio to play in the background. Don't videos pause once you swipe to quick reply on notifications? and when you invoke CC. That's very annoying.
Jasmine youtube client long ago used to play video's audio in the background and it was the best thing ever.

The point isn't to actually watch a whole video in PiP. I think they even mention that in the keynote. It's more to quickly do something else without having to pause, exit the app, go into another app to do whatever, exit that and go back to your video.

On top of all that you could use it to say you're watching a "how to configure something in Settings" you could PiP and follow along live in your settings with the video. (Obviously you may not see every tiny detail but between at least some visual and the audio you can follow along nicely quite easily.)

Next I want to show you multitasking in the context of something I think we all do quite a bit on our iPads, which is not that which is watching ESPN.

So let's bring up a video.

I am going to play right here.

Now, often when I am watching a video, I may decide I want to look something up or check something or maybe even get a notification, and I want you to watch what happens when I tap.

Watch the video.

Now I have Picture in Picture.

So I can still listen, I can watch my video, I can, of course, resize the PIP if I want, like this.

I can move it around the screen so it's out of the way of what I am working on.

I can even move it off the side.

Sometimes I just want to listen for a while while I work.

Of course, it stays with me wherever I go.

I can pull it back, and when I am done, just tap to put it away.

And that is Multitasking in iOS 9.

It definitely wasn't intended to watch entire videos, but I think it's extremely handy.

PiP works on my iPad Air with 1GB of RAM. It is split screen apps that need 2GB of RAM.

Aha! You're right. I thought both Split and PiP were locked to 2gb. My bad then. It's on air, air2, mini2 and mini3.

As previously stated you don't need 2GB of RAM. It could just as easily run on the 6 and 6S.

I originally had it in my mind for some reason that it was both Split screen and PiP that were locked to 2gb. I was later corrected and I saw it was on air, mini2 and mini3. Perhaps people are seeing my original post and not seeing when Julien corrected me.

Because it's just an awful user experience. It'll quickly be followed by articles ridiculing Apple for implementing such a bad user experience. Then shortly followed by hundreds of forum posts saying how Steve Jobs would never let iOS include something so useless. Not really worth it to give a few people the choice of trying it before realising they don't like it either

Damn you have some really strong feelings on allowing people to text and watch a video on their phones.

Here's my question, why do you have to see every pixel in every video? I understand there will be videos that you will want to see every pixel but aren't there videos you don't have to see every pixel in? Just look at the WWDC Keynote Apple, if I recall correctly pip was being shown within the mail app and then they showed how it can be pushed out of the way completely leaving just a little bit of the side.

For example, that video I used in my photoshopped screenshots is more of a podcast type of video that runs a length of 1 hour 14 minutes. I watched most of that video on my iPad while playing clash of clans. It's great, I don't have to watch the video at all times so I can play the game, talk to clan mates and all the other good clash stuff. But what's really nice is when nothing's really going on I can still look up into the corner and enjoy the video just as I would have full screen. And there was a point in the video when I changed to full screen mode, this was because I wanted to see more clearly a screencast. All I had to do is tap the video and the left button and boom I was watching full screen again and when I was done I continued doing what I was doing.

But it's really not limited to clash, I've watch countless videos while texting, cleaning up my email, and browsing MacRumors. I'm just not seeing why adding this feature to an iPhone is like a video death sentence.

I wouldn't mind it at all for iPhone. Obviously the 4.7" 6 screen is pushing it for size but it could still have its uses. Don't like it? Then don't activate it. But at the same time I'm not too fussed if it ever appears for iPhone. (My guess is probably eventually but maybe not right away.)

Yeah im struggling to see why it's such a big deal, if you don't like it or see the use for it don't press the one tiny extra button and you won't have to use it.
