there were leaks/rumors of 2 new pixel tablets in development under citrus fruit based code names ("Clementine" and "Kiyomi", the first Pixel tablet was code named "Tangor")

similar/same hardware with a few spec bumps and new first-party accessories were rumored.

None of it has materialized yet - just the Pixel Tablet without dock option.

Personally I'd love to see a (mini) Pixel Tablet Pro with premium build materials/design and much better specs.

Here is a more in depth summary of all things Pixel Tablet 2
I hope they continue the Pixel Tablet line, problem with Google is they have a tendency to stop producing things after a while. It doesn’t help with trusting them.

The Pixel tablet is a unique device that Google have done in a different way to others, especially with the dock and being able to use hub mode.

Taken from the Dead Thread below:

As someone who loves the Pixel line but accepts that he has to live in an iPhone world, this is the sweet spot for me. All the apps I use on my iPad can be found on the Play Store which is why I went this route for my next tablet.

Hub mode is great and have now moved our Nest Hub Max back into the Kitchen and the Tablet now has pride of place in the living room.

Took it away with me for a trip to Spain last week and the fact that I have WhatsApp on there as a companion app meant I didn't need my phone on but could still receive messages. Tremendous stuff.

All in all, I'm really pleased so far.

I would like to see an updated SOC in a Pixel tablet before I buy it. This tablet had a gen older Tensor than the P8P and if they wanted it to be somewhat future proof then Tensor G3 should have been used.

In my opinion the dock doomed this device from the get go. Forcing a dock on people who just wanted a good tablet was a bad choice I order to make up for poor hardware(on board tablet speakers for example) and basic LCD screen.

Why would I buy this over an iPad Air 5th gen for example when I can get the iPad on sale for the same price or less than the Pixel Tablet without dock? If the processor was a bit better then I would not complain as much but the Pixel Tablet is outdated in 2024 and nothing new on the horizon which as others brought up makes me think since sales weren't as good as Google would have liked and economy is bad they might just fire sale the rest of the stock they have and include the dock free and discontinue the tablet.

That is the most likely trajectory because if they were all on board with their tablet line they would at least be dropping hints of a new model later this year or next and some basic specs but nothing yet?

I was really hoping Google would double down and make a premium 2nd gen Pixel Tablet and I would have bought it but who knows now??

I bought this while owning a perfectly serviceable (albeit the battery a bit long in the tooth) 2018 iPad Pro.

And I can obviously only speak for myself but the dock was the major draw for me - the tablet on its own and I’d have probably stuck with my iPad.

But even with it’s supposed shortcomings, the tablet is still very fast, screen is great (again coming from a 120hz screen) the fact that it can be docked, has multiple profile support plus it integrates with my Google Home setup made it a worthwhile purchase.

The advantage of the dock seems obvious with Google Home. I guess you can move the dock around until it needs to be plugged back into electricity. I use the microSD slot on my tablets now for music. While I have enough internal storage, I do like the ability to use additional storage. Pixel Tablet doesn't have that. I guess the bump up to 256 GB is enough for many. Maybe even the 128 GB.
Apple is still thinking about a dock for the iPad.
I understand the sound from the dock speaker is quite good.
It is interesting that the Pixel Tablet has Chromecast built in.
I can't see the value there, but I'm not everyone.
Google isn't that much different from Apple. So much is about the phone.

Pixel tablet is down to £389.20 with Google's 26th Birthday offers, anyone think it's worth it? that's with the dock included.

Only you can define what constitutes a good deal for you.

I will share my experience with the Pixel Slate Chrome OS Tablet. Bought it on sale like half price. 6 months later it was discontinued. Great looking hardware but underpowered.

I don't think Google is going to discontinue their tablet line but it uses Tensor g2. We are on the Tensor g4 now. The Tensor G2 in the Pixel 7 series was underpowered and overheated a lot. Maybe thermals are better in a tablet but performance is only going to get worse over time.

There are better choices in my opinion. Hopefully Google will release an updated Pixel Tablet soon.

I would like a higher spec version without a doc. Something with an Oled screen, better speakers, better scratch resistance, newest Tensor and not a generation behind, at least 12gb ram, 16 being ideal and 256 gb ufs 4.0 storage.

Until Pixel Tablet has updated specs to be a great standalone Tablet it is something I would pass.

But if it is a good price for you and you have a two week return period at least then go for it and see if you like it.

Who cares about anything but what your experience and expectations are and if the Pixel tablet meets them at a price that works for you then that is all that matters!

lol, it’s really not that bad a tablet mate-certainly not as bad as your making it out to be.

I never said it was bad just aging fast and still fairly expensive. The software is top notch though.

I had a P7P so I know the Tensor G2 and I have a Pixel 8 Pro so I know the T G3 too. The G2 was not a good chip even if I loved the Pixel 7 Pro. Obviously a tablet has a bigger battery and better thermals but the Tensor G2 is pretty hungry in terms of juice and heats up fast so I still think it will suffer from the same issues I had with the Pixel 7 Pro.

Compared to a 5th gen iPad air base model can be found for the same price or cheaper and it a much better tablet IMHO even though I prefer Android. I would also say a Samsung Tab S9 might be close by $100 to the Pixel Tablet depending on sales and it is a much better tablet.

I also think Google is clearing their stock. Why? A new tablet coming out or they are going to discontinue the line. Either way with the older Tensor in the Pixel Tablet I would pass.

However if you like that is all that matters at the end of the day. I have no skin in this so do as you like. Lol

Although you had to be quick because it was probably a misprice (it pays to set up alerts), I would have considered it at £279.
https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/google-pixel-11-tablet-speaker-dock-bundle-128-gb-with-code-4407268

Given that it came out 15 months ago and only comes with three years of software updates, at £389, I would wait for the next version. A second generation would prove that Google is still committed to the product--at least in the short term--and likely come with much better specs, as well as other improvements, and be supported for up to seven years.

Although we're yet to see how Google's products perform after four or more years of OS upgrades, I do think the longer support adds to the perceived value of the device.

Had the Pixel tablet for a bit, for that hardware, build quality and performance, anything more than 250 is too much IMO.

hardware wise, you can get much better Android tablets for less or the same price.
If you need a home hub of some kind, the speaker with the dock is pretty good tough and the angled magnetic docking is just neat.
I liked the plain Android experience (although I used it with GrapheneOS instead of Google's version itself)
Didn't like the feel of the tablet - it didn't feel firm and kinda rubberized and I don't mind plastic (like the iPhone 5C which was a lot firmer)
it was pretty heavy, despite not offering long battery life - yet lots of empty space inside apparently.
It got hot quickly, even with basic things like surfing the web, watching videos or video calling.

Also possibly 2 new Pixel tablets are in the work, that at least should no longer suffer from overheating and poor performance.

Thank you for the advice, I’m going to wait for gen 2 (if there ever is one). I want something to sit in my bedroom and show my Google Photos on like a photo frame mode. But also something that i can use to access my Philips Hue lights.

Hopefully Google bring out a 2nd gen Pixel tablet next year.

Then you might as well get a Nest Hub/Nest Hub Max. They do exactly what you’re describing.

lol of course you’d pass. I mean I have the device and am telling you the heat issues aren’t there yet you ”think“ they will…

You keep on mentioning the base level iPad and yes as stated if I wanted purely a tablet experience I would have stuck with my iPad Pro. As such the Pro doesn’t come with any of the functionality that the Pixel Tablet does when in docked mode and offers a superior experience in to what it can do OS wise. Anything app wise in terms of streaming services is identical to that of what you get on an iPad so I’m not missing out on anything there.

You say you have no skin in this but have been negative in your views all the way through this imo.

I can honestly say that I haven’t experienced anything above. Love the feel, haven‘t found it heavy nor have it found it got hot under general day to day use.

I could keep on going but the jury has decided on this one I guess.

It looks like more productivity features are coming with Android 15:

I can see the Pixel Tablet '2', or a ‘Pro’ version, having an official keyboard case and possibly a stylus. That would be a good move, as I thought the original focus was too narrow. Offering a cheaper, standalone version without the dock was already a step in the right direction.

What I don't understand is why can't I have a negative view and not care what you or anyone else does in their purchase decisions?

It seems like unless I agree that the Pixel Tablet is great then I am just against Pixel tablet?

If you like the Pixel Tablet and think it is a good deal then buy as many as you want. I already said the software was great but the hardware was my issue and I gave several examples of my complaints.

I also gave other examples of different tablets that I feel offer more value and will be in service longer and perform better than the Pixel Tablet.

If a post asks for opinions on a particular device I give my honest opinion at the time asked. If you agree fine and if not fine.

I like Pixel and before that Nexus but I also am keenly aware of Google's past with devices and programs they start with a bang and abandon abruptly later. They have a history with Pixel devices of hardware failures. So I am just trying to warn people that there is a risk buying a Pixel Tablet may be a dead end OR it might not be such a great idea now and waiting for a second gen device even at a higher price would most likely make more sense getting the most value and long term software support. But that is my metrics. Some people may not care and just like the Pixel tablet regardless of future support or anything else and as a tablet at a discount I personally still don't find it a compelling choice when there are better options for the same cost or wait and see what Google does and if they release a new tablet. \

If you think since I think the original Pixel tablet is not a great device that I am just negative then you haven't read that I have a logical reason for my warnings. I like Pixel devices and I really hope that the next Pixel Tablet does well and has the specs and hardware and price that I can finally justify buying one!!

I have been waiting for a Pixel tablet for years by the way. Had the Nexus 7 tablet and loved it and kept it until I couldn't use it anymore*(rare for me). Never really liked Samsung Tablets because of OneUI in the past so I was really excited to get a Pixel Tablet but the hardware just wasn't there for the cost at release and with the current competition nothing has changed. So I look forward to getting a Pixel Tablet once it makes sense and they provide hardware similar to a S series tablet from Samsung or iPad Air or Pro at a lower price than the competition and I will buy it the next day!
