I don’t know about you guys but Big Sur is a mess for me.

All the way from a super pixelated/uncentered login screen image and text.. to the buggy asf Safari whos Tabs dont even show the X to close said Tabs 90% of the time. Theres bugs all throughout the OS.

I sincerely hope since Apple didn't release a new beta today.. that that isn’t it.. and next week wont be GM - in this state..

they have a LOT of work to do still :/

Even if Apple releases Big Sur soon, I am going to wait, for the following reasons:

1. Not all my third party software is compatible with Big Sur yet. In fact, I expect my last one, Tech Tool Pro, will not have a compatible version until December/January. That's actually a good thing, as by that time, OS 11.3 (or maybe 11.4) will have been released, and most of the bugs in the earlier versions will be eliminated.

I have been following that strategy for the past 5 versions of the Mac OS, and it has always worked out well.

2. As I said above, by the time I "upgrade" (actually will do a clean, fresh installation), OS 11.3 (or possibly OS 11.4) will be released by then.

3. Catalina (OS 10.15.7) is working just fine for me. No issues, and rock solid.

4. There is nothing earth shattering in Big Sur that I see which I must have, and hence no need to upgrade right away.

I don't use Safari, so cannot comment on issues with it.

Fortunately all my 3rd party programs work fine. Acrobat Pro DC, AS/400, Fusion 12 player, iStat menus, Microsoft Remote Desktop, Office 2019 (fast insider), Teamviewer, and Trillian all work just fine. Some of them need some updates to make it more compatible (mostly graphically), but no showstopping bugs like crashes or kernel panics. Does this mean my experience is indicative of everyone? Not in the least bit. I just don't make my 2018 MB Pro 15" work super hard. Day one install for me and it will be fresh wipe and load, like every year.

I also have a feeling that beta 9 was the last beta and the next couple of weeks will be spent on fixing bugs and releasing to the public sometime in the 20's of October.

Well, for me, I have some major ones which are not yet compatible:

1. SuperDuper!
2. LibreOffice
3. Onyx
4. Tech Tool Pro
5. EasyFind

Some of them are:

1. 1Password
2. AppCleaner
3. Transmission
4. Quicken 2017
5. VLC

But even if all my third party applications were compatible, I'd still wait until a later release of Big Sur, as the initial versions (typically the .0 and .1) have some bugs that need to be worked out.

What beta are you running? Running Beta 9 here and I don't see any pixelated screen images anymore.
Running Beta 9 on 2020 27" iMac. I tried to take a photo of the login screen.
You can see the Login photo is far more pixelated than the writing. Even the "curve" of the circle has a huge displacement on the far right, left, top and bottom lines. Comparing the circle around the photo with the question mark circle in the photo.. there is a big difference in presentation.

I think we need beta 10 and than GM? But I don’t remember Apple ever having beta .10? Usually goes for GM from beta8 or beta 7 and here we are in beta 9

macOS Catalina had beta 10 so its possible macOS Big Sur could have the same.

Catalina is a mess already even after the 7th update. I don't think Big Sur can make this much worse. Especially on the "haunted" 16".
I will upgrade as soon as all my software is compatible and see whether they fixed any of those "Software Bugs"...

Do you mean Big Sur is a mess already even after the 7th update? We are WAY past the 7th update for Catalina.

Well, I only counted the updates that increased the version number (10.15.x).So from 10.15.0 to 10.15.7 are 7 updates for me.

Oops! My mistake, as I was thinking in terms of the 7th beta for Big Sur. Sorry about that.

However, the only Catalina "update" that caused me (and others) issues was the V10.5.5, ie, the 5th update. What it did was to provide serious issues for the superior backup/cloning programs SuperDuper! and Carbon Copy Cloner. I actually had to go back to V10.15.4, and then the issue was corrected in V10.15.6.

Still, though, I have had no issues with Catalina. It has been rock solid for me. Of course there are these factors:

1. I did not start until V10.15.4, as around that time is when my final critical program, Tech Tool Pro, released a Catalina-compatible version.

2. Like I always do with at least the first version of the new Mac OS I "move" to, I did a clean, fresh installation of OS 10.15.4.

3. I make a concerted efforts to keep both of my Macs "lean, mean, and clean". That includes 1) doing daily cleanup (almost all of that is permanently removing deleted EMails, 2) always keeping up to date with all my software, and 3) using excellent tools like Onyx and Tech Tool Pro for addition al disk cleanup, maintenance, and (rarely ever needed) repairs.

No worries ;)

I always upgrade. I just do clean install when I get a new machine (which is around every 5-10 years). I stay aways from cleaning tools. I clean up apps when I uninstall them. Otherwise just stuff there. Files that are not read by any app only take up disk space but are otherwise no harm.

But that all doesn't help when the OS has issues in its core. But from what I read online (and I read a lot) is that the 16" is especially affected by those issues.

My older Mac has no issues with Catalina except that it's slow. At firs I though it's the machine as it's from 2013. But the 16" has the same slowdowns so it's just Catalina. Big Sur runs blazing fast compared to Catalina on the old 2013. That at least gives me hope that Apple is getting their sh** together with macOS....again.

I always do at least one clean installation with each new Mac OS. The first time I install it, of course, But sometimes I do it with intermediate updates. If I do an update "in place", I use the applicable Combo Updater.

As far as cleaning and/or associated tools, owning and maintaining a Mac is just like owning and maintaining an automobile. And I assume you know the serious issues that can occur if one does not maintain an automobile.

I am a cleaning "nut", and insist on keeping things neat and clean. I clean our townhome once a week, clean my automobiles as much as possible (and wax them twice a year, which is always recommended), clean our bathrooms about once every 3 weeks, etc. I just don't like any kind of cluttered environment. The same with my Macs.

And an added benefit of keeping Macs "lean, mean, and clean" is that the more free space one has, the better the machine performs. That's a proven fact.

I've been "accused" in the past of going too far with these tasks. But I don't care. Doing such tasks has always resulted in me not having issues with my machines. And again, it is just second nature to me to keep things neat and clean, along with the rewards at the end.

This seems a problem with the image being low resolution. Did you try with one of the default images?

The image is high resolution. When booting up at login it is pixelated. When waking up from sleep, it is high quality. Seems to be a boot up only bug.
