my phone's a "brick." i was using the webdictionary application and my phone froze. it would not let me type or anything. I restored my phone and then my phone took a sh*t. on itunes, it says that my phone is damaged and that i needed to bring it to an apple store. So i did and they said they cant help me cause my phone was hacked. is there any way to unbrick my phone. I can make emergency calls but on the home screen it shows an itunes icon with the charger cable pointing to it. any help out there please? is there a reputable company outside of Apple, that can help me repair my $500 paperweight? thanks

with Hamburglar.
If you unlocked it, you might be out of luck with Apple.

It sounds like you need to find a program that will wipe it out and restore it - other than iTunes.

Put in in DFU mode and restore to 1.1.4. If you want to activate it without ATT, use iLiberty or Pwnage.

If it powers on and you have not messed up your baseband bootloader, it is probably not bricked.

Dfu?

What is DFU mode and how do i do this. thank you. keep them comming. a non-functional iphone is that saddest thing to witness.

If you have a connect to itunes screen then you will probably be okay, download ziphone and I seem to remember an option allowing you to kick it out of recovery mode, what EXACTLY happens after you restore in itunes? Do you get the 1015 error? Anything?

i went on ziphone and ran the DFU mode. then restored the firmware and now i get a different screen on itunes. before it said contact a dealer and because your iphone is damaged. now itunes says "the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported. i had my t-mobile sim card inside the phone throughout all this if that makes a difference.

i now tired to restore the phone with itunes after i used: jailbreak, activate, and unlock on ziphone and an error came up. it said the iphone "iphone"could not be restored. an unknown error has occured. (2001)

I've gotten the 2001 error before, sounds like you are on the right track at least. Pop in the old sim if you can and try to restore once or twice more with 1.1.4, it can't hurt. Also, quit everything but iTunes when restoring. I used to get the 2001 error when I would leave Independence open during a restore.

Also what iTunes version are you running? Latest or a few versions back? I'm assuming OS X, right? Leopard or Tiger? Latest ziphone?

If you jailbroke or unlocked (whatever all those terms are) the phone, you're probably SOL. iTunes should back up your phone each time you sync it, so it should be backed up somewhere. But that might screw up royally if it gets hacked.

Yeah try and quit everything, pop in the original SIM, restore with iTunes again, then report what error you get (if any) and I'll try to help you back to iPhone happiness :)

apple should fix. IF it is not jailbreaked. its a phone not PC - you do not require a virus-scanner on it.

Take the SIM out all together and do a restore again, see what happens, if worse comes to worse try a different computer, or try and redownload the firmware as it might be corrupted (probably not though)

i took the sim out and reconnected to my macbook and itunes came with a new error. it says "The iphone "iphone" cannot be used with itunes because the SIM card is PIN locked or not installed. you must enter your sim pin or insert your sim card into your iphone in order to activate.

Okay, put the Tmoble SIM in again and try to restore just one more time with your comp, then take it to a different computer if it continues not to work. I am almost 100% sure that your phone has not become useless, it's just a matter of the correct variables when restoring.

Maybe you should try reading the warranty. Plus, if you don't think it's a computer, you should REALLY try actually using one. It's a device constantly connected to the Internet. You think it's not prone to bad-guy hacking if altered?

Apple has discovered that many of the unauthorized iPhone unlocking programs available on the Internet cause irreparable damage to the iPhone's software, which will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed. Apple plans to release the next iPhone software update, containing many new features including the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store (http://www.itunes.com), later this week. Apple strongly discourages users from installing unauthorized unlocking programs on their iPhones. Users who make unauthorized modifications to the software on their iPhone violate their iPhone software license agreement and void their warranty. The permanent inability to use an iPhone due to installing unlocking software is not covered under the iPhone's warranty.

IM me if you get a chance. are you very familiar with this type of stuff? what does it mean when your phone is bricked?
