I paid $1,382 with tax for my base 13", 1.86Ghz, 128GB, 2GB ram at Best Buy. I could have ordered online and got it cheaper, but oh well. Lol. The taxes took up a majority of it.

WoW! That's a sweet deal. I'm looking at $1,979 after tax on the Apple site, maybe time to try and deal with someone on the phone. Thanks for the heads up.

You're welcome! My local Apple store had them, and they were $1,947 after tax, and of course, they wouldn't negotiate on the price, so I took a chance and called Apple online last Sunday. The rep started off by saying that they were required to charge tax, so I had to explain that I was wanting an after tax price equal to MacMall's no tax price. He said, "let me see what I can do".

It's on the Fedex truck for delivery today! :)

I bought my 13 inch MBA with the 2.13Ghz processor, 4GB of RAM, and 256GB of flash storage from the Apple Store Penn Square, Oklahoma City. I didn't qualify for any discounts and the sales tax was 8.0375 percent. Do the math.:)

By "apple discount" do you mean the employee discount? I'm confused.

I got a Government discount, then when FedEx lost my package, Apple gave me $300 off. Instead of having to wait for another MBA to arrive, apple let me go to the apple store and get the MBA that I really wanted. When the CTO arrived from China, I returned that one to the Apple store.

BTW - How many profiles can somebody have at one time on MacRumors?

I bought mine in CA and there is tax here. How come I paid the same as you?

erm, i have no idea? that makes absolutely no sense though... you pay $1299 for the base 13" model, minus $50 for education discount, + $90 for the RAM upgrade = $1,339. you must have paid more than that when you factor in the tax.

The place is a zoo, isn't it? I have learned the hard way to never, ever, go there on Saturday.

I called the Apple Store Penn Square the day before I actually got my MBA and was told they had the model I wanted. I got in my car, drove to Penn Square, entered the store and after waiting 15 minutes to be helped by an MBA guy was told, sorry, they didn't have that model, after all. Arrrg! The only good news out of all that is that I live only about a mile and a half from the mall.

All's well that ends well though. I called again the next day and this time talked to the products manager who found my computer in stock, told me he had it in his hands and would put my name on it. This time when I got the the store, the products manager met me at the Genius Bar with my computer in hand. I then realized that he had also sold me my iPad.:)

I was in there about a week after launch and the only maxxed out version they had was an 11". When we went back to buy my wife a base 13" MBA they had the maxxed out 13", but I already had an order placed via macmall. I have since canceled that order and ordered it from apple online. I am pretty happy since I have got to play around with my wife's while I am waiting for mine.

When I got my loaded 13 inch none of the online sites had them yet. I don't mind paying our extortionate sales tax if it is on a transaction where I can go into a local store and buy what I want but I draw the line at ordering BTO Macs from the online Apple Store, having to wait for it to be built, shipped, and delivered, and still have to pay sales tax in the bargain. Thus, I felt fortunate to find exactly what I wanted at the Apple Store and paid full retail plus sales tax on it with a smile on my face.

For me, I'm still trying to figure it out. I've checked Macmall, Macconnection and the Apple store. Each one charges tax to NY but free shipping. So far with the Education discount from Apple, the macbook air goes for 949.99 so it's 1,033 after taxes. cheaper than the rest.
