How does a pick up window work. On West Coast here. Only thing I have today is a haircut at noon. I'm worried that is going to be the window they assign me, or do you get to choose between a few different windows? Thanks all.

I'm guessing it's a combination of the pending XR release and improved stock on Apple's end.

I’ll be the first to criticize Apple when they’re wrong, but it feels like the supply chain worked well and there was plenty of production for launch day. So in that respect I gotta give the folks credit, that’s quite an operation to get running smoothly.

Well I'm not buying one, but what the OP was saying appears to be true, at least in my part of Canada. It looks like all configurations of the new models, except the Xs Max in 512 GB capacity, are in stock at the 4 Apple stores closest to me.
This is the first iPhone I can remember where it’s hasn’t sold out initially or even had many people queuing to get it from the Apple Store in my local city. Apple even had a barrier set up and security and about 4 or 5 people turned up yesterday morning! Great if you want the phone though.

T-Mobile got us 2 with the ground shipping. Thank god, T-Mobile Twitter was able to help us go to a store and get ares. Glad you are getting yours today.

I think there are a few factors that lead to this. One is that there are generally more models to choose from. This year you have 3 new models. So not everyone just trying to get one single model. Which makes it easier to find the model you want, at Apple or another store. Obviously online sales make it easier to walk-in and get one. But price seems to make ppl shy away. A lot of ppl I talk to say they aren’t paying for a $1000 phone on principal. They don’t seem to find a way to justify the price.

I think that the tech nerds on forums such as this are more likely to be buying the XS/Max. I believe the XR is going to show a bigger response on release day, with it's lower price point, when 'Joe Average' shows up to buy.
My local store had long lines outside all day yesterday, and again today. And tons of stock. I was really quite impressed. Yet also annoyed that my watch order still said October 5th. So I just bought it in-store and cancelled the pre-order.
