I think people are missing the point. I don't see anything that indicates that Plex will do anything but SERVE content to the LG devices - not run on it. Something that other TVs (Samsungs, for example) can already do via UPnP/DLNA.

I have a new Mac Mini and a new i7 Windows 7 machine that I put together for the purposes of being a HTPC. Only XBMC on Windows/Linux is capable of delivering an acceptable experience on large screens. The media center options running under Mac OS X (Boxee, Plex, XBMC) are incapable of switching the refresh to match the source material. Judder Judder Judder.

I've settled on Boxee on the Mac mini for delivering local and network (TV) content to small screens, and XBMC on Windows for large (projector) screen presentation.

Why are the makers of Plex making a big deal of Plex being integrated into LG tvs when it can already be done with other tvs?

I'm really happy with my LG blu-ray player.

They are really turning it into quite the player with adding all of the extra features (like Plex) to it. The MLB.tv app and being able to get all of the baseball games for $25/year is just awesome.

I can't wait for the NHL to get something like this. It's the only thing I miss from cable!

As for Plex/LG STB's... does it integrate with iTunes and play the same files that my iPod/iPad play? If not, I don't really care about it. Part of what I love about my AppleTV is that I can rip my DVDs (and encode my home movies) one time and manage them in a single media application and watch them on all my devices.

Personally, I am a little on the fence about AppleTV right now. But not because of this LG/Plex announcement. In fact, every time a new device comes out talking about having hulu/boxee/plex functionality, or any other sought after content, I can't help but think it signals that there may be future ATV apps that do the same things. With apps, anything is possible. They added netflix, and it seems like there might be more of the same coming.

I'm sick of all these troll "something kills Apple" threads. Theres too many of them and nothing ever "kills" what Apple brings out anyway.

Sure, you may not like Apple TV but I can't wait for mine to arrive. For what I want it for, its perfect. There is nothing else better on the market for my uses, especially something thats only $99.
