So Ive been playing more with Plex but still having network drive issues. So I ripped everything out of Plex and started over. This time I created the video source as an SMB share and set up the folder itself on the iMac as an SMB. Plex saw it and populated all my movies which was good, but it took so long I havent had a chance to test it out yet.
However, I never found an option for NFS. Not sure if this would prove to be more reliable or not.

One thing I noticed though, regardless of how I get the movies into plex, Plex on my Mini DOES NOT like MKV files. Whereas Plex on my iMac doesnt have any issues at all. Is that a RAM thing? If so I can put a couple bigger sticks in the Mini. If its a network thing, I was thinking about just hanging a large external drive right off the Mini and not worrying about all this crap!

Plex will be fine with SMB but you'll have to re-enter the username and password for the shares after every Plex restart. Sleep should work fine though.

I've never, ever had Plex fail to play an MKV on my Mini and I've got over 300 DVDs encoded using MKV.

I had issues with using SMB and large files. They would play but once I got around the 3GB mark in the video they would crash. I switched to using AFP and everything has worked fine since then.

Oh, I didnt realize that! I thought by providing the username and pass right in the Plex source it would do that automatically. DAMN!!

Hmmm, I wonder what is going on with my MKVs then. I bet it has something to do with that damned DTS encoding!! Ive only tried a couple MKVs though. I should try a few more tonight to test.

Good to know. I was on the Plex forums and noticed a Bonjour Mounter tool some people are using to automount their AFP or SMB shares. Maybe Ill change it back to AFP and try this automounter. Im just getting sick of seeing that damn error when I try to ply a movie!! I really like Plex and the UI especially, I just hope I can get it working for everything.

By the way, the 2 MKV files Plex is having a hard time with, Handbrake is as well. I cant load them into handbrake at all. This has never been an issue before either. My workflow has been the same for all my Blurays. MakeMKV, then Handbrake them to m4v. However, Adventureland and Open Season 2 (my 2 most recent MakeMKV files) refuse to open in HB. It says No Valid Source Found.

Hey guys, would I be better off sticking all my Movies on an external drive and plugging that into my AEBS for sharing on my network, instead of sharing the folder on my iMac?
