A couple more things i remembered:

1) My app also prompts (non aggressively) for people to rate (or update their ratings). It has smarts built in so that it doesn't ask annoyingly, and so that it will also ask people who most likely like the app (i.e. because they have been using it very often for a very long time).

2) Here's an image from my inbox, filtered down to PocketFlicks messages:

As you can see, i get a lot of feedback from this app. I currently have a 100% response rate. My responses always come in within 12 hours, and i often respond to customers *immediately* (the exception being when i sleep :D). This engenders a lot of good will with my users. Now, i don't ask all of them to review. Instead, what i'll do is wait until after new releases and go through people who i've helped out and who were happy with the experience. I'll also email people who had suggestions that i'd completed. For example, in my next release I'll have "People Search" (a popular request). When that ships, i'll contact a lot of the people who asked for "People Search" and i'll ask them to review my app. Most will do this. Pretty much all of them are just happy that they have someone they can reach out to who will listen to them. Other apps/developers don't do this, and people are often stunned to see me doing it. That's one of the reasons that so many of my reviews call out this behavior.

Note: I do this with all my apps, not just PocketFlicks. I believe that these are techniques that are acceptable (and desirable) so that you can have happy customers and get good reviews for the appstore.

I hope this helps clear things up for you.

Cheers!

My mistake! Seems like I was completely wrong. It sure seemed like it was set up, but obviously it wasn't. Sorry!

Not a problem. Thanks for taking the time to call out your concerns and to listen to me with an open mind!

I'm happy to give you a promo code (if i have any left), or i'll just refund you the cost. That way you can make the determination for yourself. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the offer. If you graciously provide me with a promo code I'll definitely give you an honest review here & over at itunes. I've reviewed numerous apps at itunes

A great app...

Since I'm not a Netflix subscriber I don't use PocketFlicks, but I've been an avid user of this developer's other movie app, NowPlaying, for ages. I prefer it to Flixter and while the new Rotten Tomatoes app is pretty, it's still not as useful.

I've always been impressed with the developer's responsiveness (like the great logo war, or when some theaters in my area stopped appearing in the app). There's a great unaffiliated site called www.appshopper.com where you can monitor how regularly an app has been updated. You'll find these are both pretty actively supported.

Now, if you could just give me a promo code or a refund for NowPlaying... oh... wait... it's free. Why'd I type this?

I like the UI & features in PocketFlix better than iphlix but it is much slower. Hopefully the speed will change

OK any speed issues I had yesterday are gone tonight

really like this app , especially being able to go to IMDB,wiki & Rotten Tomatoes without exiting the app

for me this is as close to 5 stars as you can get
