Just thought i should start a new picture gallery. This picture gallery is for point and shoot cameras only!
Im new to photography maybe besides a little bit of photography 101 in high school a long whiles back. Hopefully i will be getting a cheap used Canon 10D soon cause the prices are really starting to drop for these.

Ill be posting more pics soon, heres all i could dig up for now. One of my favs in Haleiwa Town, North Shore of Oahu. Taken on my girlfriends Casio QVR40

Quadra, I just gotta say, tee-hee, that I was at fredmiranda.com, in a people photos forum, and I saw a thread entitled Touareg, and I was wondering, what, a photo of an SUV in such a thread, but the person had an honest-to-goodness Touareg tribesman in his studio! Gorgeous photo too... That thing isn't yours, is it? *understands why you're still computing on an 840!*

Yeah, here's something...most of my pics are portraits and candids of kids from camp that I don't feel comfortable posting, but this is a bud from last year from my parents' garden in Jacksonville, FL. Today my mother picked one of her first roses, which was a fine, fine pink, but unfortunately, no camera.

The A-Series Powershots have full manual control, so I don't really consider it a "point and shoot" camera. In any case, here we go:

the "Manual" modes in this camera's are nice to play with

BUT with such small lenses and close proximity to the CCD you really don't see THAT much difference -- they are great for learning aperture to shutter speed relationships though.

That oceanside came out very nicely! I think the goldfish was a great idea, but that'd be a mad tough shot to get a point-and-shoot to get right...

my hp photosmart 735 is a pita to use--devours batteries and an incredible delay from shutter press to picture take, not to mention it takes forever to take a pic when the battery's low so everything comes out blurry no matter how still you hold it. takes good pictures besides that. all that said, i'm a total photography n00b.

Thanks -- that ones is titled, "First are friends, not food."

Learn about the macro mode on your camera. A good macro mode and fully automatic focus/apeture should manage a shot like that pretty well. That's how I did it.

BTW, what is *your* camera?

Olympus C-2100. I just bought a Canon Powershot A95, but I'm not sure if I'll be keeping it or not.

That is more advanced then my a-80.

And that photo was taken in Macro mode in full automatic.. I didn't start learning the advanced features until shortly before I sold it and bought the Pro1

No, It belongs to a friend.. I have pictures of my VWs but I will not post them here, since I took them with a non point and shoot camera

Well no need to get defensive, others may not know that, and I was just trying to share.

I will dig up some photos from my old Fuji D-10 and post them later. There should be no dispute that the D-10 is only a point and shoot.

No problem, I wasn't quite sure.

Those are some Awesome shots!! I sometimes wish I still had my A-80, it was a great camera, and took real nice pictures in almost any mode.

The Kodak camera takes good pictures for what it is.. It is hard to find a good low MPX camera that has little image noise. Granted there is a bit in that shot, but it is MUCH lower then some of the cameras I had in the past.

My favorite thing about P&S digitals is when soccer moms and dads see me at sporting events shooting and ask me why their Canon A90/Nikon 5300/Fuji S5000/etc. can't get shots as nice as my SLR.

They generally wanna know why my 4mp/6mp DSLR works better than their 7mp/8mp point and shoots. Funny thing about cameras-- back in the film days, it was ALL about whether or not you had a f2.0 lens or an f3.5. Nowadays, it's all a megapixel war.

Also of note-- the paradigm has shifted too. It used to be manly to have the fastest lens. And the men ate it up. These days, it's the WOMEN who are easily offended when I, who am being paid by the org who i'm photo-ing, gets in the way of their kid scoring a goal or whatever. I thought this one woman was gonna use her P&S as a hammer and hit me in the face.

Cracks me up. Though you guys are using your P&S's about as well as they can be expected to be used.

The best is when you see someone with a point and shoot taking a picture of a building or scene (distance shot) and you see the flash go off

that said, some fill flash can do wonders... but not on a building 2 miles away.

I wish i could post some shots here, but alas, DSLR is my bread 'n' buttah....I could probably post some DiMage 7 shots....
