I really struggle with the fact that this exists on the Mac Pro at all.
And the sole reason I wasted $1200 on the GPU in the first place was that I, in my stupidity, imagined Apple would nail the drivers and support for the card when it came out for the Mac pro. Obviously not.
Same here.

Yep, w5700 on a 16”mbp constant issues with sleep etc.
It’s in the cupboard now........ I found most of the time life was simply easier without the card than with it.

Well on the laptop that would defeat the whole point of having a portable for me. Isn't it possible to disable the AMD GPU in software for the time being with something like gfxcardStatus and run solely on the integrated one? I imagine it still comes with two GPUs like most upper end Apple laptops. You'd probably lose any video-out functionality then though.

I've had my 7.1 with the W5700X for two weeks now and it's been a perfect and rock solid system so far. The MP goes to sleep while lunch but I usually shut it down over night. Adobe CC is not my main software but I've used PS and InDesign a lot the last couple of days. Everything works as expected!

It was used as an egpu - makes total sense on a laptop and when used for rendering is awesome.

Does anyone have any updates to this issue?

We've got two Mac Pro 7,1 with the W5700X and both have serious freezing and crashing issues. Our machines are used in a video production environment running Adobe CC all day long (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder). These machines will turn off randomly or freeze entirely when using these apps. We also have to unplug our monitors and plug them back in upon restart to get a picture back (both systems have two 4K Dell Monitors - one plugged into the HDMI port and one plugged in with an HDMI to USB C connector on the second GPU bus).

Both machines are running the last version of Catalina. Tempted to try updating the machine to see if it resolves anything, but not sure that will really help here.

We have two additional Mac Pro 7,1 with the Vega Duo and have had absolutely no issues. Rock solid. W5700X has been the most expensive and frustrating rollercoaster ever.

Has anyone had success with a remedy or an experience with Apple support regarding these issues yet?

Still having issues here. 34 crashes/restarts since they replaced my entire MacPro with another identical configuration. Apple Tech support just says they fixed all the driver issues months ago.

Crashed again last night in InDesign and Photoshop. Most of the crashes/restarts happen randomly - mostly during or waking from sleep. Adobe apps themselves do not have to be open.

The system crash reports are all over the place. Some are really short (only a few lines); others scroll forever.

What a bummer. I feel for you. I have the W5700X and utilize Adobe products (Adobe Photoshop, etc). No crash or single hiccup since day 1. Not sure if it makes a difference, but the only 3rd party software installed on my MacPro (not made by Apple) are Adobe, Carbon Copy Cloner, Color Finale, NIK Filters and Qfinder Pro.

Running Big Sur 11.2.1

Are you guys using sleep on your Mac Pros?

I have sleep disabled, and my system has been quite stable with macOS 11.1. I do have issues restarting though, frequently have to hard power off.

My typical apps are FCPX 10.5.1, Bridge, Photoshop and Chrome/Word/Slack/etc.

I occasionally (rarely) allow my MacPro to sleep.
Had to reboot (hard) my MacPro twice in its lifetime.
I only use Safari.

This is unfortunate to hear and with no resolution to date on the latest Big Sur build?

My MP with Vega II gpu had not experienced any crashes. Only 2 random restarts since purchased nearing year ago.

So it’s definitely with the W5700 drivers or the card itself that isn’t being acknowledged.

For those experiencing crashes, what is your monitor setup?

The only difference I can find between the two 7,1 W5700X that we have that crash multiple times per day and the one 7,1 W5700X that never crashes is that the two bad machines are pushing two Dell 4K monitors - one via HDMI, and one via an HDMI to USB C cable (connected to bus 2 on the GPU).

The 7,1 W5700X that runs stable only has one of these 4K Dell monitors and a secondary LG ultra wide monitor that runs at a lower resolution.

This is driving me mad and extremely bad for our business. The fact that Apple has replaced some of your machines and you’re still having issues is a really bad sign. The quality of this configuration just seems to vary so much from machine to machine. Our Vega II Duo has been rock solid from day one. I wish they had never released this card option.

Not a single Adobe related crash in almost a year. I have disabled sleep on day one.
I am using the LG 5k2k UltraWide Display with 2m thunderbolt to DisplayPort cable.

Just out of curiosity are you using: Dropbox or Wacom on any or all of your machines?

No issues here, only very occasional blink of “static noise” like in old TVs for like a frame.
It’s plugged to an XDR, still haven’t upgraded to Big Sur (all the buzz around bricking and such made me wait). I don’t use any Adobe software (just once for a few min).

Dropbox???? Are you using Netscape as your browser? (a kind and humorous jab)

I stopped using Wacom after upgrading to Big Sur. Could not get it installed and running. I spent a good amount of time on the phone with Wacom tech support while they guided me through multiple restarts, long in and outs, and deactivating security settings. Their actual words, "We wouldn't have this problem if Apple stopped updating their security." I realize there's several users who have not run into this problem. I'll wait.

All my clients have Dropbox accounts, so I have to use it as well.

I have decided that all Apple OS "upgrades" do now is cost me time and money (thousands of dollars). They have not added a single feature that enhances my workflow in years, just cost me a fortune in 3rd party software problems. Now it looks like they are trying to turn it into an iPhone!
