About 30 minutes in with my new 2012 mini and just had my first blackout.

I think a WTF is in order.

Not black but snow screens every now and then for about 2 seconds. I've reported the issue to Apple.

We need everyone that is experiencing it to call Apple and open a case for it. The more people that report it, the faster they will act to resolve it. Don't rely on everyone else to call. It just takes a minute (you can even have Apple call you).

I can add another occurance to the collection, I just did a re-start and the grey apple screen turned out purple. Then the login screen appeared, the screen blinked and a screeching sound came out the speakers, then the computer shut itself off..

Everything was fine when i booted up again.

Ordered a new cable

I have decided to try a different approach. I'm currently using a HDMI cable and I'm getting black screen regularly. I also find the the white colour on my monitor is a bit harsh even with the brightness turned right down. I have just ordered a Mini Displayport to HDMI cable from amazon for £10. I will let you know if that cures the problem.

So I ordered the display port to DVI cable from monoprice after having the fuzzy screens and also the black screens. Just got done playing Portal 2 for 20 minutes and playing around a little bit on the computer and I have had no problems so far!!

Seems to me the issue is with the HDMI port. I'll post back if I do get any black screens though but so far so good.

I've been having issues with calibration via HDMI...

When connecting via HDMI, make sure that the monitor is in a mode that "just scans" and doesn't overscan or underscan. On some monitors this might be called Computer Mode or PC Mode. On other monitors you simply disable overscan.

Just adding my two cents and throwing in my vote.
Connecting to my 47" VIZIO LCD TV over HDMI to HDMI.
Got random black screen a couple minutes ago.

Def a Mac Mini issue..I'll be throwing in a support call soon just to let them know this isn't a one off issue.

Since so many peole are having this problem it has to be a driver / firmware problem right? If not they would have to recall the entire batch..

I'm getting occasional flicker with my DP-DVI adapter and I also seeing artifacts on black backgrounds, sort of when a GPU is overheating or going bad. I switched to the included HDML-DVI adapter and the black background artifacts are gone with this connectoin, picture looks good. But of course after a while I get a blackout and then static. Powercycling the monitor brought the picture back.

Using a Dell monitor without HDMI input. For a while I was using a HDMI cable attached to the Dell supplied HDMI->DVI adaptor. Just last night, I switched to using a DVI cable with Apple's DVI->HDMI adaptor so it would stick out less from behind the monitor.

Haven't experienced any issues yet, but haven't had the time to properly evaluate this machine.

After a week of flawless work I got the black screen yesterday for the very first time. It didn't go away after few secs (stayed black) and I had to put the mini to sleep and log in again to restore the display. I am using straight HDMI connection form my mini to Asus LCD monitor.

no black screens so far after two day of use.

it would be great if everyone who's experiencing blackouts posted with their exact model.

Using AOC 22" monitor. Started out using the HDMI to DVI cable that came with the Mini. 2-3 times a day I would get the black screen and once or so the fuzzy white-ant races screen.

Since my monitor doesn't have a HDMI input I hooked it up via TB to DVI connector and WOW...crisp, clean color & zero issues with a blank screen/ant races.

Yes and no. I had the black screen blip a few time when I first set up my mini using HDMI to my tv. I've now had the mini hooked up to an ATD for several days and I don't get any black screens.

No issue with any of the video ports. Currently using HDMI to DVI and a 22" Benq monitor. I went and bought a cheap $6.99 HDMI to DVI cable last night. Before that for a week I was using Apple's mini to VGA adapter. No issues.

Yes

Hi all,

I am having frequent black screens and infrequent snowy screens with my mac mini 2.3GHz i7 and an AOC i2353Fh LCD IPS 23" connected via HDMI.

Aaaah yes because rather than bother with their own support forum on their own website, Apple should be active on MacRumors, MacFixIt, Macworld forum, MacLife forum, Mac User forum, Mac Observer forum......

What large company runs around to every little website to support their product rather than just providing support on their own site? Why would anything think that if they had an issue, they could goto a 3rd party site to get help from the manufacturer themselves? Cable TV stopped working? Better go on TV.com to complain about it rather than calling Comcast.

Can you actually read? A lot of people contacted Apple and there is still no solution. I have never said that Apple should be active on macrumors etc, You make that all up... Are you crazy? :p

Apple has pushed out a graphics update for the Air and Pro, so the Mini will hopefully be next:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1609

Hopefully, people using external monitors with their laptops will chime in and let us know if that fixed anything in particular. I understand that Air owners were having a similar problem.

Just an update. I switched to a DP to DVI adapter and I haven't had a black or snowy screen in two days! Maybe a coincidence but def worth the $9 for the cable.
Apple also contacted me and acknowledged the issue. There sending me a cable to see if that works but if not then they want to exchange my mini and test it. Looks like they are trying to do something about this issue.

Received BTO 2.6 Mini today, set up different scenarios:
- HDMI and DP->HDMI to Samsung TV
- HDMI->DVI to Dell monitors.

Black screen occurred for 2 seconds in the DVI test case after about 3 hours. Testing more this weekend.

Filed case with Apple, talking Monday am.
