It seems like Apple is planning on ditching Wired charging in favor of MagSafe Charging .In this juncture there is an important question to be asked ?

Definitely MagSafe/wireless. I don't understand why some people are married to wired charging in 2021 nor wired headphones.

What evidence have you seen that they're going to do this?

Just wondering, because wired is still the most efficient way to charge. If you're charging from a portable battery pack, you want it to be wired so you're not throwing away a good 20-30% of the energy.

Also you need to have a lightning port on the device; lots of things still use it. Might as well keep allowing charging.

I voted "Something else" because I charge both ways.

Wireless charging pad on my nightstand for overnight, wired charger on my desk in the office.

If I need to charge really fast before I go out, I use the wired charger. I also use wired for charging from a battery pack since it's more efficient.

Both ways are valid and awesome.

I prefer wired charging. MagSafe makes the iPhone really hot thus degrading the battery life

Doesn't happen with mine 🤷‍♂️ And I'm using it with the 20W charger too, so it's charging at max speed (max speed for MagSafe, that is). It's warm (which is perfectly normal), but definitely not "hot."

Wired charging may be faster, but the MagSafe with the 20W brick is still very fast. No complaints here!

I use a standard Samsung wireless charger for overnight, slower charging. Once in a while the cat knocks the phone off the mark on the charger, and I haven't charged. Then I use the MagSafe charger to get caught up. I would always like to have the wired connect as a backup or in the car.

Wired charging is faster and more efficient. I tried the MagSafe but it made my iPhone get really hot. I'll wait a few more iterations before I decide to move over to wireless or not. And yes, I tried it with the new apple 20 watt adapter.

I was very skeptical at first with MagSafe, but it’s very convenient (much more than standard Qi charging). I can’t say that it is much more convenient than wired charging, but I could accommodate to use MagSafe only charging in the future.

but the standalone MagSafe charger is not nice. Having a proper magnetic stand that go off when I take the iPhone is a better experience for me.

For me wired charging is really only for the relatively uncommon circumstances where I need to charge as quickly as possible. I have Qi chargers on my desk and by my bed and MagSafe in my car (my favorite use of MagSafe, in an inexpensive car vent holder, which holds it at a perfect angle), and I just set my phone down wherever I am.

Wired charging is significantly faster, even more so when you have a 12 mini.

That's how I meant it. "may" is one of those words like "if" that can be used in 2 senses ? For example, if I said, "That quarterback may be the best in the league, but he hasn't let it go to his head," I would be acknowledging that he IS the best in the league and am just contrasting that with his humility.

That being said, I can't imagine needing to charge faster than my current set up. Definitely not worth it for me and I would guess most people. I also use a dust plug for my lighting port that I would have to pry out every time I charged and try not to lose. No thanks!

Been using Magsafe 1 and 2 chargers for the majority of my time with Apple and love them because they can't damage the computer or charger if abruptly struck or yanked on.

I don't like the TB3/USB-C ports.
WHY? I work where the users tend to snap off the USB-C charger tips inside the laptops. Either the internal USB-C receptacle gets bent and/or the charge tip remains inside the laptop.

When they ask me if I can fix it - I look at them and tell them they need to pay Apple for their carelessness!

You really need an "I don't care" option.

Neither is significantly easier/less hassle, and the speed doesn't matter when you're charging over night.

Now true wireless, over a few meters - that would be game changing.

I use my Anker wireless charger to when I'm at home. Though when I travel, I just bring a lightning cable to charge my iPhone. I admittedly got caught up in the wireless charging crazy with the X, but now I don't have a strong feeling one way or the other.

"Wireless" of course is just referring to how the phone connects to the charger. MagSafe and Qi charging ARE true wireless charging. What you're describing would be "contactless" charging ?

The faster charging, the better. How is that possibly a bad thing?

Did you hear me say it was a bad thing? LOL. I'm just saying the convenience of wireless charging, especially when MagSafe paired with the 20W brick is VERY fast already, makes the wired charging option pointless/overkill to me. Obviously I still HAVE a cable so I COULD charge it wired if I wanted to, but I just don't see the need.

What, are you all draining your batteries to empty and just DYING to watch the rest of that movie or whatever so you want to charged wired to save a few minutes of charge time? I guess if I were constantly draining my battery and having to charge multiple times a day, it might be marginally better to charge with the cable. But at least for my usage, it makes no difference.

I will prefer wired until the very end but also want wireless as an option.
I dont care about headphone jacks (so OK with their elimination) but I do think that a portless phone is a typical pie-in-the-sky Silicon Valley dream which hopefully never will be realized.

Wired charging makes the most difference for me in places like the living room and the car.
I'm not usually charging in the car on long trips, usually just topping off while driving to the grocery store. Fast makes sense there.
Same in the living room. I don't leave my phone plugged in all evening, usually just if I'm below 50% I'll top up to 75. Always worried I'll need to evacuate or something and my phone will be dead like in the movies.

The reason why I mostly don't trust wireless charging is because of the alignment of the charger. Sure Magsafe for the phone solves that but I can't plug and unplug the magsafe one handed so it doesn't do me any good on the nightstand.
