Is this a magsafe charger? I use it to charge my JUUL device.

Hahaha, do you have cats, like me? Yes, MagSafe was first used to identify your pictured connection for laptops and I might say I'm still highly in favour of that connection in comparison to the USB-C. Applying the same name to Qi or magnetic chargers for iPhones is a new thing.

I have charged wirelessly every night ever since I bought my iPhone X, which I replaced in October with an iPhone 12 Pro. I am not concerned about potential battery life degradation, as I have AppleCare. It's so much more convenient to just put my iPhone there every night and not have to think about plugging it in. I only plug it in if I have to charge it fast, for some reason.

It seems like Apple is planning on ditching Wired charging in favor of MagSafe Charging .In this juncture there is an important question to be asked ?

I prefer my standard wireless charger I’ve had for a few years. Have no idea what benefit MagSafe has for me to be honest? More of a gimmick for my use.

I always carry a cable at work on the rare occasion I need to charge my phone too, hence why I voted for the something else option.

Doesn't happen with mine ?‍♂️ And I'm using it with the 20W charger too, so it's charging at max speed (max speed for MagSafe, that is). It's warm (which is perfectly normal), but definitely not "hot."

Wired charging may be faster, but the MagSafe with the 20W brick is still very fast. No complaints here!

Aren’t iPhones MagSafe chargers limited to 12-15W max? Also, as others have mentioned, with wireless charging we waste quite a bit of energy, as some of it is dissipated.

For overnight charging MaG safe does the trick but for quick charge during the day wired charging with a 20 watt charger does the trick
Also that burn in on the case from the MagSafe is a turn off

Yeah, that's hilarious that Apple let that slip. No history of previous other wireless chargers leaving a mark on cases, yet with Apple, it was okay... ?

Wireless charging has so many cons :

Inefficient
Heating
Expensive
Bad for the battery

Even if Apple solves these problems they will never be able to catch up with wired in terms of efficiency . Because currently Wireless Charging is less efficient than Existing silicon wired chargers. Even if they manage to make it as efficient as existing silicon wired chargers, it still will be inferior to wired charging

Why ? Because the next generation of wired charging is already here - GALLIUM NITRIDE

Instead of ditching the lighting port they should replace it with something better.

USB C is apparently undesirable to Apple. So they should introduce a successor to Lighting

Lightning 2 ?

The thing with USB-C is that its major features were already handled by lightning. And lightning can also be adopted to USB3 and fast charging specs. So switching from lightning to USB-C on iPhones at this point seems redundant imo. Besides, there's that Mfi revenue coming in. ?

Maybe it depends on how courageous Apple decide they want to be going full wireless charging. For the smaller devices like iPhones, I expect Apple going to MagSafe and portless instead (more money from accessories), while for larger devices, USB-c is what they decided on (iPad Air and Pros).

Note I didn't say it was charging at 20W, but simply that I'm using it with the 20W charger. My point is this allows it to charge at the max 15W. Light bulbs waste energy as heat too. So do engines. I think the planet will be ok with me using a MagSafe charger, LOL!

I don't need to charge my laptop in 30min. I also don't need the laptop to be pulled into the floor because of a stupid cable. Magsafe 100%. Chargers fast enough and won't kill the laptop. It's like many have never used an older Macbook Pro with MagSafe before. My older 2012 Macbook with Magsafe charged just as fast as the newer intel model.

First, the discussion is about phones, not laptops. Secondly, it’s not about the older MagSafe wires used with older MacBooks, it’s about the new so-called «wireless» magnetic chargers for iPhones.
