Just curious about how people are experiencing WinXP on the Mac, now that everyone has had some time to form a real opinion. Join this little poll, and we will have a general impression. Remember to write which mac you are using. Write the bad - but the good, too!

so, I'll go first:
_____________

Using Macbook pro, core2duo 2,33:

using bootcamp.

generally i am very pleased, although it doesnt really seem as smooth, as on my much older 1,6 Ghz acer laptop.

Startup takes forever - the little sliding-bar in the startup menu passes by around 20-30 times, as opposed to 8-10 on my old acer.

Audio seems a bit choppy-stuttery sometimes.

Had to install it 2-3 times before it actually got all the way thru

All software runs perfect. Wi-fi and Bluetooth is good - it does seem to get hotter in XP than in OSX though.

First off, at least for Parallels, I suggest 2GB of RAM MINIMUM.
Both OS X and Parallels suffer if you don't have at least 2GB of RAM.

Beyond that, I've been running WinXP via BootCamp with no problems on 2 MBPs (CD and C2D). I've also installed Parallels on tens (10s) of Macs now, with no problems, as long as I stick to the end user releases. iMacs, Mac Pros, MBPs, and MBs.

Windows XP Professional SP2 w/ all hotfixes

Windows XP runs flawlessly except for one exception: at boot time, it pauses in the middle of loading the startup items for about 10-15 seconds, then finishes loading. It doesn't crash or freeze and installed properly from the first try. No complaints.

I assumed by 10 responses that i wouldn't be the first to vote.

I have slight problems with my Bluetooth keyboard needing to be turned off and on each time i boot into windows and then having to refind it again with OS X when i come back into OS X.

Windows is not really used but i have Parallels as well as Boot Camp, at first i didn't like the hit in HDD space but using the Beta Parallels really saves a lot of space.

I prefer to use Parallels as it is a quick switch back to OS X when i get too annoyed with Windows.

WinXP Home on iMac using Bootcamp. Works flawlessly. I use it for Flash 8. It's there primarily for backup in case my Winbox goes into one of it's fits (which it does).

Wacom Tablet works fine.

Can't wait for it to finally go out of beta.

I use both bootcamp and parallels. It runs great. Sometimes it gets a little slow when I have a lot of programs running (since I have 1Gb dedicated to parallels...).

Nuc

Edit: Also for some reason I get an executable from a F77 to run faster on parallels than on bootcamp. I was surprised and not sure why this is so.

I'm using a MacBook Pro 15" 2.0GHz Core Duo/2GB RAM/80GB HDD/

I have 512MB RAM for windows xp and it runs ok, could definetly be faster in some areas, but it does the only thing I have it installed for (2D gaming!). It definetly lags sometimes, but it's bearable, the only thing that is a problem is that the game I play sometimes freezes for about a second or two and then runs again and repeat process indefinetly, sometimes a restart will fix it, sometimes not.

Windows vista is a completely different story. I had 1GB RAM dedicated to it and it was VERY slow and unresponsive, it was unbearable and it even lagged a lot when opening the start bar.

It runs poorly

Since I'm running it in Virtual PC 7 :p

I've seen a friend's MacBook w/ Parallels, and it runs great on that platform.

I have XP SP2 in Parallels, and it runs like crap since my iMac only has a gig of RAM and if I give XP anything more than 256 megs, OSX grinds to a halt. I'm eventually going to upgrade to 2 gigs.

I Boot Camped Vista on my iMac and use that when I need a full gig of RAM for something or feel like torturing myself.

XP on Parallels using C2D 2.33 with 2gb of ram works great.. i load office stuff, browse mac-unfriendly sites and use Origin. its even alright with 'simple' curve fitting. I used MATLAB on it before the universal binary was out which worked alright for simple things but doing much better with the new universal binary student beta. just missing my cftool. Otherwise.. my Parallels VM is great.. always just suspend it.. wakes up within a few seconds.. just takes up too much memory so i never leave it open unnecessarily.

poorly

one of my biggest disappointments is that parallels so far hasn't released a stable version that fully supports usb 2.0 or even 1.1. in addition, it slows down my computer to a halt, especially when XP is booting.

however, i've heard good things about parallels' latest RC. not only it supports usb 2.0 and drag n' drop, i heard that it also allows you to boot XP by using boot camp. can't wait for the stable version.
