I'm a numbers kind of guy and thought a poll would be nice to see how many people, here on macrumors, have had to replace their 27" iMacs or if you are completely happy with your purchase.

Cheers!

One 2 many, my next replacement is in Australia might pick it up tomorrow

I'm sorry to hear that. I am debating on wether to purchase one now or wait a little bit. I looks like the safest bet is to wait... unfortunately.

Just get one, u got nothing to lose, if u go thru 2 and want to give up you'll get ur money back if u want a refund. It's not a big deal really

Oh, I know, I've thought of quite a few scenarios. For me, there are other deciding factors as well other then worrying about defects.

I went through 4 i5s (two 1tb and two 2tb), and did a return/refund after the 4th. Watching for the next iMac update to see if they fix all of the problems..

on my 4th i5 now...

The first one was returned due to the graphics glitch...

2nd and 3rd were returned due to Yellow tinge via Executive Relations and send to Engineering.

Sitting on the 4th until reports the yellow tinge is gone/fixed at which time I will try to swap it out or get it repaired.

Well, I will be on my first by the end of the month as mine is currently on order. Apple's not shipping it until the end of the month due to the 2 week backorder. My thoughts are the backorder is due to Apple working out the issues. I'll bet this next crop will be free from defects but unlike some people here I never expect "perfection" out of any consumer product. A $2000 giant screen computer with incredible specs and amazing build quality such as the i7 iMac that I ordered may seem like a kings ransom to some but it's really not when you consider what you are getting.
If I want the ultimate "perfect" computer then I better open up my wallet and pull out at least $10k. That being said, I expect my first i7 iMac to be my only.

It's way too big of a computer to pack up and return multiple times, that's just insane and furthermore I don't believe people are doing that many exchanges, there are a few FUD spreaders here. So OP, don't take everything you read here as the solid truth, there are people here that hate Apple and register on MR just to scare people into not buying their products.

I'm on my 6th iMac right now. I'm an idiot for making such a large number of exchanges and I deserve all of these defective iMacs. I mean who in the right mind exchanges a product 5 times and hopes that the next one will actually work!? If it were any other product I would have given up after the first exchange. They really get you with this 27" display though :p. Regardless, it's going back until this all blows over.

Don't make me laugh. I have had three 27" iMacs over the last two months, and one of that is made up. Packing one up isn't hard, and Apple arrange collection.

Don't make ME laugh. Well I guess for you it's as easy as shoving a DVD back in the package and taking it back to Best Buy. For others and I can assure you many others, packing up a big computer like that and exchanging it multiple times is no picnic. When I had my 24" iMac, it was a hassle for me to pack it back in the box and take it to the Apple store for repairs. Not everyone has a courier to come pick up the computer and personally deliver another one to you. Many of us are buying form our local store and we have to pack it up, load it in the car, take it back to the store and get an exchange. To do that more than 3 times is utterly ridiculous. I would've gotten my money back after the second one. The iMac is not the end all to computing. But since this is the internet, I have learned to take anything people say here with a grain of salt, especially like the guy that said he exchanged it 9 times? Yeah right.

Most retailers will only allow up to 5 exchanges and after that they give you a refund, period.

There's an option missing: I'm on my first one but I have yellow tinge. But I'm waiting for Apple to solve this problem, before I will go for a repair or exchange.

Apart from the yellow tinge, my i5 is perfect, I like it very much, but I want that tinge solved at some time :)

Once you get a good system down then boxing and un-boxing is a piece of cake. Now lugging this POS back and forth through the mall is an entirely different story. Once you start developing a system for returning these things you know you should have given up quite some time ago. Ugh....

Had two and got a refund. Didn't want to keep exchanging that thing. Using my MBP with an external monitor for now.

Yeah, taking back to a physical store is another matter, but a LOT of people buy online, which means Apple sends a courier to pick it up. I've been doing it from work as well, so I didn't even have to take time off.

4+ is outright OCD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, I mean dude after the 3rd one if it didn't work out then freggin return the ****!!!

I'm on #3. All of them have had the color uniformity issue. I plan to return it one more time, and then I think I'm going to get a MBP + 24in. Display. I'm very disappointed in Apple for not acknowledging this issue.

Yeah, if you open the iMac carefully like it's something worth $2000 as it is, it's quite easy to box it back up. There is only one cable to deal with, etc. It couldn't be easier really.

No poll choice really suited me. I tried 3 and gave up, so 3rd time wasn't the charm, by the end for me.

Really who is spreading FUD that they claim you need to spend $10k to have a good working computer that doesn't flicker and have uniform colors ?

For 2000 euro (2800 dollars) I expect the (and I quote the apple site ) "picture with excellent color consistency". You know what the color distance is between white and yellow, not something I would call consistent or even excellent.

there are people here that hate Apple and register on MR just to scare people into not buying their products.
Oh great another big international conspiracy story. You should team up with Sir Cecil who also opted - before returning his yellow unit - that it a big conspiracy driven by Apple's competitors. Throw in some ninja's and maybe you have a start of a good novel ?

In a lot of countries we don't have Apple stores so returning devices via a courier is the only option. It is just a matter of putting the thing in a box and letting the courier pick it up. It is even regarded as a big plus - especially for the price us europeans pay - that we don't need to take it back to a store when there is something wrong.

You obviously misunderstood what I wrote, instead you come up with words I never said.
I didn't say you had to spend $10k to get good working computer, I said if wanted the Ultimate "Perfect" computer (which is something nobody gets with a consumer product) that's what it would cost, especially for what you get today that you paid nearly that much yesteryear for, but not even close screen-wise or feature-wise.
Here we go again, it's always the noobies that try to start fights. Interesting that you would defend people about registering on MR to spread FUD. You haven't been on here long enough to see that there are plenty of Apple haters on MR. The front page news says it all. There have been articles that are actually good news coming from Apple in the customers favor, yet the article will receive a fair amount of negatives, wonder why???. And many of the negative comments towards the new article are from noobies, wonder why?

I'm glad that you enjoy taking down your system and being inconvenienced every time you run into a flaw in your system. Maybe I'm in the minority, but once I set up system, I intend for it to be there permanently, I don't want to box it back up even if the courier is coming to my house, whom which I would have to wait for to arrive which is another inconvenience. I have a job and daily purpose, maybe you don't and you have plenty of time on your hands.
Don't mix me up with other people who are attacking others with issues with the iMac. I just ordered one, I'm not here to tell people they are being anal and OCD so don't put me in that category with someone else on this forum.
