AT&T has had problems supporting the mass amounts of data all us iPhone users are eating up. They have also dropped the ball several times, such as being late to offer MMS and tethering (STILL WAITING).

We have logic and now reports to support that Apple will open the iPhone to other networks in the U.S.A. when the 4G networks launch. http://www.appleinsider.com/article...iphone_on_new_u_s_carriers_within_a_year.html

My question in the poll above is, when that happens WHAT WILL YOU DO?

I suspect AT&T will suffer a hemorrhage of iPhone users to Verizon. Verizon's 4G network will be brand new however, and it will be very interesting to see if they will be able to handle the massive requirements of iPhone users better than AT&T.

Either way I am excited for the competition, as it will benefit us as consumers.

My contract with AT&T will be up when the 4G iPhone launches next summer. My vote is that I will wait until that time to decide where I want to go. One thing is for sure though, I will have the 4th gen iPhone! :D

The iPhone will not be going to Verizon. AT&T will pay a boatload of money to Apple to keep the exclusivity of the iPhone.

I have had an iPhone for 1 1/2 months and AT&T is great. I get great 3g coverage. Data speed is very fast.

Also, AT&T has rollover minutes which is a great feature.
 
Not sure about that the iPhone may go to Verizon but I think it will be on AT&T and Verizon much like what happend with the Razr Cinglar/AT&T had the exclusivity for years then it opened up everyone else had it and so did Cingular still.

I think the same will be with the iPhone I more and Likley will stay with ATT the mass leaving of them will take a load of AT&T secondly you kidding yourself if you dont think Verizon wouldn't crack under the pressure that is the iPhone.
 
I doubt we'll ever see it on Verizon. One of the reasons is because they demand control over the software of the phone, and insist on crippling features like Bluetooth. That was one of the main reasons why they turned Apple down initially. I think they are doing just fine with AT&T and I doubt they'll sacrifice anything to get Verizon to take the phone. I'll stay with AT&T if that were to happen though. I've had them for 10 years now and haven't had a problem.
 
even if it does go to VZ, i'm staying with AT&T. not like VZ can add bandwidth any faster than AT&T. these are complex engineering/legal projects. not like you can just build towers anywhere any time

I highly doubt AT&T could pay Apple as much money as they would make if they opened the iPhone to other carriers in the U.S.A. :rolleyes: It all just a matter of time with the compatibility of the 4G networks!

I have been ok with AT&T's 3G network after the initial hick-ups as well, but the fact that we STILL don't have MMS and STILL don't have tethering really pisses me off! :mad:

Oh and I have about 3,000 roll-over minutes that I can't use because obviously my plan is more than sufficient for my needs, but if I switch to the next plan down, i loose all my rollover minutes because that plan does not include them! Nice! :rolleyes: I also couldn't upgrade with the subsidized price to the 3Gs because my monthly bill without fees and taxes is only $94 not $99 even though it is really $115. Screw AT&T! :rolleyes:

I hope not, I was on T-Mobile before I switched to AT&T for the original iPhone and T-Mobile's coverage was bad. My sister still has T-Mobile and their coverage hasn't gotten any better.

As for Verizon, I'll take a look at the features of the iPhone and if there is a big enough difference I'll switch when my contract runs out. Although as it is right now I'm content with my 3G on AT&T, I have great coverage and 3G anywhere I go.

Agreed, it just isn't the same here without the weekly "Verizon will get the iPhone and I will switch because Verizon is the source of all that is good in the world while at&t is the source of all of the world's evil!!!!!" threads.:rolleyes:

Well this is typically assuming that Verizon would be on a 4G LTE network-since that is where Verizon is moving towards. Which is backwards compatible with GSm. I don't see Apple allowing the iPhone on VZW until that point.
 
Sorry, but ever since the iPhone AT&T service in my area has become better. True, some places still lack behind, but AT&T is actually strengthening their network that I feel staying with them is the best choice.

That and Verizon has the worst CS ever. Not to mention I hate them.
 
Switch to Verizon? No thanks! I've been with At&t for a while now. There's absolutely no reason for me to move to another carrier, even if they "get the iphone."
 
I will continue to not care. Though if the drama starts i may pop some popping corn and enjoy the cyber melt down and calls for revolution.
 
Why do people think that by saying Verizon's LTE network will launch in 2010, it will be everywhere in 2010? Their LTE network won't even be close to complete until 2015 or later. It's way harder to go from CDMA/EVDO to LTE than CDMA to EVDO. I'd say that by the end of 2010 we will see a few metro areas that have LTE, and that's it. Plus LTE is voice only, so if the iPhone did go to Verizon Apple would either have to make a quad-mode CDMA/GSM/HSPA/LTE model or a CDMA/LTE and GSM/HSPA/LTE model.

So no, the iPhone will not go to Verizon, even if it stays on AT&T it won't have an LTE radio.
 
isn't LTE supposed to be voice and data being all data? where voice is transferred using SIP or a similar protocol?

LTE is NOT backwards compatible with GSM, it is just the 4G technology agreed upon by virtually every GSM/HSPA carrier and the GSMA. LTE builds on HSPA, which is the 3G upgrade path. GSM uses a TDMA radio system while HSPA uses W-CDMA (not compatible with CDMA), and LTE uses E-UTRA, which is based on W-CDMA.
