Not bothered by the notch, you don’t even see if when using the phone, don’t know what all the fuss is about.

Notch, no notch, half a notch, doesn’t bother me, as long as Face ID is here to stay, I’m happy 😁
I wouldn’t call this fuss. People just have different preferences and opinions about aesthetics, and this is a poll to see what they are.
I’m perplexed that half of the comments are from people who claim to not care yet seem pretty intent on defending their preference even though I don’t see anyone attacking it.

I never notice the notch in most use cases. I think a full screen with Touch ID in the sleep/wake button would be great. Similar to how the iPad Air works currently.

Hole Punch or Full Screen got sick of the notch . Face Unlock doesn’t work when you have a mask and sometimes I don’t want to bring my apple watch. A finger print scanner in screen would be nice to, my last android phone was a galaxy s10 and it was awesome never failed for me. First time on Apple was a cheaper Iphone X while I like it , it really needed a touch id

Hole punch for me. Everything else just looks terrible in comparison. But I don't expect too many people here to know any better.

Seriously? Precisely so people would NOT think this is a “choose between Face ID or Touch ID” poll, “except if absolutely necessary (to get true full screen)”.

I swear people get so “triggered” every time their precious Face/Touch ID is even mentioned and they bring years of baggage from previous arguments into it. I’m starting to regret this poll.
I think I know what you were trying to ask - even after your edit, but it still comes down to whether people are ok with touchID. The basis of your question is whether you would give up Face ID for a full screen display (When one option doesn’t have FaceID, that becomes the issue). You change two variables under that one option. Whether people are ok with those other options aesthetically really seems trivial.

About those options:
The hole punch idea still doesn’t make sense despite the rumors. I can’t quite see a front facing camera in a hole-punch but having faceID under screen. I could be wrong. I just don’t believe those rumors yet. No other company has that level faceID tech under screen. So that option doesn’t make sense if, as you said, we are talking current tech.

The option you lay out for “bezel” isn’t really interesting imho - even though some people picked it - because you can do that right now, At least on the home screens with proper wallpaper.

So, the way I read it was: current design with Touch ID and faceID OR hole punch/fullscreen without Face ID.
Basically ‘Would you tolerate Touch ID ONLY in order to have a truly full screen display?‘.

…Which would be an interesting question to get an answer to, but you’d be crazy to think people won’t discuss their love or hate for each ID method.

I think it’s pretty simple. This poll is based on the premise of a true full screen being the goal and asking the question—“what do you think is the best compromise to try to get to that goal?”—whether it’s a notch, hole punch, bezel, or giving up Face ID entirely (now that it’s more of a feasible option). The catalyst for this poll is recent rumors of Apple adopting hole punch, and Touch ID now being able to achieve full screen either via power button or presumably under screen (and this is kind of taking a lone front camera out of the equation, assuming it can be put under screen even though that tech is pretty immature). But some people are so stuck on the Face ID vs Touch ID fight, that they think that the existence of even one option without Face ID means this is just another pointless Face ID vs Touch ID thread. It’s ONE compromise option that some might prefer, that is all. You don’t want to give up Face ID, ok good, now pick which of the three Face ID implementations you think is best, and now argue why that’s the best. But people just end it with Touch ID sucks. ??
And then there are some (not all) “notch is a non issue” people here who seem to be saying that even discussing the options or having this poll is an invalid idea. I honestly don’t know where they’re coming from.

Someone suggested a tiny hole punch for each Face ID sensor, but since the notch is rumored to be shrinking, I imagine it might also be possible and more preferable if they could cram the entire array into one larger but not too big hole punch.

The only difference would be in landscape I don’t think a wallpaper with black ears can rotate to keep the ears black (I could be wrong), but more importantly a Home Screen wallpaper wouldn’t help for apps which is where people spend the majority of their time.

Of course, people are welcome to discuss the merits/demerits of each option. But that’s not what’s happening with some people here. Some are trying to devolve it into simply Face ID (with 3 options that I’m not even going to acknowledge) vs Touch ID. That has been done to death over and over and over, and that’s not what this is.

I have no issues with the notch. As long as FaceID is present, I will be happy. Notch or hole punch, I would like Apple to keep FaceID. Having TouchID also will be an added bonus.

Reading through this tbread, you’re the one getting triggered by peoples opinion. You asked people to answer a poll with loaded answers and expect no opinions. Seems strange to me.

It’s like you completely ignored everything I said. 🤷‍♂️

Notch is associated with budget phones. For a premium priced phone it should have at minimum FSD with in-screen sensors, TID, FID, etc. Personally, for privacy I prefer TID over FID.

I honestly don’t notice the notch anymore, but I do miss Touch ID. I liked being able to grab my phone with my thumb on the button and have it unlocked even before raising it, or even not having to raise it at all. I miss not having to look at the screen to unlock.

I don't think I ever noticed the notch other than letting me know what part of the phone it up. I really don't find I need to look at the phone for Face-ID to work - I lift the phone and apps using Face-ID just open without having to grab a certain way to get finger on a certain spot. But how you use makes a difference.
