Wouldn't it be simpler just to buy the new Studio Display and plug your M1 MBA into it?
Unfortunately nope :/ I have moved abroad and bought the Air for that reason. I was always looking for a beefier GPU and eyeing on M1 Max iMac since I play games, editing videos and screen recording the games too. When Apple released the M1 Max 32-core gpu MacBook Pro 16” at 4000 C$, I was actually tempted because I directly thought that we might see a new bigger iMac with M1 Max at a lower price maybe around 3000 - 3500 C$. And really Apple did come up with a new desktop Mac with M1 Max 32-core gpu at 3000 C$. However with no monitor and peripherals.. and it was another 2000 C$ on top which looked like an iMac Pro replacement instead. On the other hand, 2020 5K iMac with i7 and 5700xt blinked me at 2500 C$ which was impossible to pass for me and I went with that way. Now, since I know this is the last of its kind I should take care of it well, probably gonna buy AppleCare too. It’s an old friend i always knew so this would carry my needs for the next 5 years at least.

I'm not sure if the 24" will seem small since I've been using the 27" for so long. And the 24" doesn't have as many choices as I would like (more RAM, larger SSD).
Having downsized from a 27" 5K iMac to a 24" iMac, I'd liken it to going from a king sized bed to a queen. Still "big enough" but you can't quite sprawl out the way you can on a king.
