Since there hasn't been many rumours and no leaks.... you might as well buy one now and enjoy it for longer. I doubt they'll release a new iPad Pro until 2017.

Hey I found this article kind of funny how far fetched the rumors are.
They are claiming OSX will be running on the next iPad haha.
Anyone think that's even a possibility?

Technically, I believe it is quite possible. Practically, it probably won't happen (given Apple's direction and goals for the iPad line).

Having said that, I would love to see the iPP be able to run OSX within a VM that is locally running on the iPP itself. I currently use Jump Desktop on my 12.9 iPP to remote into my iMac. With the Citrix X1 mouse, I can have a full notebook/desktop experience on the iPP. But I'd prefer for it to be local rather than remote.

I don't believe that mashing a mobile OS and a desktop OS into a single OS is the answer to the converged device problem. I think a tight connection/synergy between both is the direction to go in. With Continuity/Handoff Apple has laid the foundation for this kind of back-on-forth between iOS and OSX... allowing each OS to do what it does best.

I still keep checking in hopes of more IPP 12.9 leaks. I'll keep waiting till September though until I purchase.

Ya same here.
The article also mentions a possible release date in October... it's all speculation but I wish there was a clearer answer.

Aren't iPads refreshed in October? Or together with the iPhones? I'm not sure that is why I ask. The posted A10 results a few days back sounded great. A good reason to wait.

iPads 1-3 were released in March/April. iPad 4, Air 1&2, and all the minis were released in October/November. The 12.9 Pro was released in November. Then the 9.7 Pro was released in March. So now we are left wondering if there will be another iPad update in the Fall, or if Apple is switching back to releasing iPads in the Spring.

Looks like there is less a pattern then I thought

First of all, any article with a click-bait title ending in a question mark (?) can be safely answered 99% of the time with the word "no".

Secondly, there isn't even a whiff of support for touchscreens in OS X, and I cannot imagine a tablet without touchscreen support...those are called laptops.

Tangential, and nothing official, but it's interesting to see that there is actually an attempt to make it happen.

I don't really think it can be mainstream without the full support of Apple behind it of course, because... well design is how it works - It's not clear how capacitive touch is going to be a major interface to desktop-class OSX applications. The fact that there are almost no desktop-equivalent professional Windows apps with a tablet / capacitive first interface is proof that it's no easy challenge.

Well the Microsodt surface pro has been stealing much of the tablet game from the iPad Pro so in my opinion either they will release OSX for it or come out with an iOS update that will make it more like a desktop.
Most likely the second one but who knows.

Have you seen the surface pro 4?
Thats how it looks when a company releases a desktop platform that's not optimized for touch lol
I'm hoping Apple will try harder than Microsoft.

You might be right, and I am supportive of the idea of having an actual Pro tablet running a full OS or a hybrid of some sort as you suggest.

I suspect that long before OS X or OS X Lite on iPad happens, we'll start to see actual evidence in OS X itself. For example larger touch targets that are needed to support finger touches (instead of the smaller targets that work with a mouse). And other signs here and there in APIs. These are often the first clues that we see here on MR that eventually lead to new hardware releases.
