hello.
i have just purchased a new 64gb ipad on ebay as there not out in the uk yet, im yet to sync it up and register it, but i have noticed that the screen is not sitting correctly by the volume switch:mad:
its hard to explain so please bear with me:
theres a thin rubber? edging that goes round the screen on my ipad from the top right corner till just below the volume keys i have a gap where i can see the innards of the volume switch. will try to take some photos later.
what are my options:
its brand new, im in the uk and have no way to return it to the usa,
will apple give me a replacement?
will i have to wait till there out in the uk and contact apple uk?
please help

The easiest way will be to wait for the UK release, although you could send it to the US. Unfortunately I think there is little or nothing that Apple can do in the UK for you right now.

This should be interesting. I'm also planning on getting an american iPad for me, but i'm also afraid because of the same issue you have.

Post some pictures.

You don't loose anything by calling apple, and say that you've bought it overseas while on a trip. But they will probably only repair it when available on the UK.

Say how it goes.

2 pictures sorry there not the best.

Apple doesn't build anything right. I've been on my 6th iPhone, and my new replacement has the glass raised on the left side, and the Bezel is higher on the right. Apple take your money and makes a BIG ASS profit... Non goes toward quality control. Don't waste your time getting it exchanged... The screen might be better, but something else will be screwed up.

Sounds like who ever sold you this on eBay wasn't being too honest. Your best option is probably to wait until they come out in the UK and take it into a store and ask them nicely to replace it.

Whoa, that is def not normal at all! Was the box sealed? Does the Ebay buyer have a replacement for you or can they refund you? Btw, what is their user ID? Hope they didn't know this and tried to pass off a damaged iPad to you but lots of messed up sellers on Ebay.

the ipad was brand new, with the box still sealed up in the selophane.
i cant really blame the seller on ebay, he wasnt to know.
so should i just use it and wait for the uk release and then get an exchange?
thanks for all your comments

They might know that it is a US version of the iPad. Warranty might not apply.

Yes, your best bet really would be to wait for the UK release and exchange it. The Square Trade Warranty wouldn't work for him since he is in the UK right?

It has already been discussed on several ocassions that the warranty is international.

If it's still usable, I'd just use it until UK release and then get an exchange.

i have emailed the seller but it states in the advert no returns!
but as i said it was brand new and completely sealed, so theres no chance of a refund off them.
exchange it is then.
will i need a receipt from the shop in the usa? as i never got one:mad: to get an exchange?
and can i just take it to my loacal apple store at the mall on release day or do i have to phone apple uk and sort it out with them?
just really pi55ed off:mad: cant believe apple dont check these things before packing them up.

No you won't need a receipt; after all it is an Apple product. You can just wander into a store and get an exchange. Although you should perhaps phone the store beforehand and let them know you need a warranty exchange so they can hold one over in case they will sell out.

Anyone can seal up a box. I would start a complaint with Paypal contesting what the Auction said. If it said brand new, I would argue it may not be after all. Never read about anyone yet opening an iPad in that condition but it could have happened. A first for everything.

I returned my iPad for a similar condition where the glass was not flush with the bezel. It is very much a possibility that the is a defect and not damage. Does the box show evidence of damage?

I've opened a few Apple products bought directly from Apple in the U.S. that had a poor fit and finish that the OP described. Crooked Keys, warped case, edges that aren't flush. etc.

These are mass produced products and these things happen. It's not as if there are artisans hand-making each iPad in China. :)

It's not the sellers fault if it was a sealed box. The best bet is what has already been suggested--the OP should get it looked at when the iPad is released in the U.K. However, I don't see the harm in him taking it in now--he could always just say he got it while on vacation. Maybe they'll give him a store credit.

thats what i was thinking. when i purchased my ipad at BB they took all my info down at the front door, wrote the serial number on a list. I think to match a serial number with a name to prevent me from buying a whole bunch of ipads to sell and make a profit. They must be doing the same at Apple stores.

they must have some database that they refer to, to make sure thet you have it legit. You may want to contact the Ebay seller and ask which Apple store he purchased from. In case you do visit the UK Apple store, at least if they check you'll have some of the information (which they can verify) to be correct.

True true. Good idea about the store credit if he can wait that long without his iPad :)

The theater that BB uses when you exit with a laptop or other computing device is only for their own inventory control. It's not for registration purposes.

There's also no real need for a proof-of-purchase. The iPad was released just recently, and with a lack of a receipt Apple will just use date-of-manufacture for warranty service. The only thing that might be an issue was if there was a finger in the shipping box. If so, the recipient might be in possession of stolen property (both the finger and the iPad).

No, you can repair/exchange any apple product in any apple store. Best Buy probably does that because -they- are store-specific. they need receipts. Apple stores are owned my Apple, so it doesn't matter where you got it from since it's an apple product (as long as the original purchase date is still within the warranty)

That's good to know if a problem ever develops with my iPad. I won't have to go thru BB and I can go to Apple and get it handled.

Thanks for the heads up.

thanks for all the comments guys.
the seller has emailed me for pictures so fingers crossed he will do the good thing.
