No I did not accidentally hit "update" or anything. Been jailbreaking since iPhone 3G.

Will it be possible to downgrade the iPhone 4S back to 5.1.1 using redsn0w restore method? SHSH are saved with Cydia and all that. I was curious to try out iOS 6 and then go back to 5.1.1 so I can have my JB. Of course if not I will stay away from upgrading.

Thanks in advance.

if you have your SHSH/APticket saved, yes than you can downgrade again.

Check in redsn0w/Extras/SHSH blobs/verify if you have full blobs

"iPad3, i4S (and iPad2 owners who don’t satisfy #2) will always be able to RE-restore the current 5.x OS that’s already on their device. So if you’re at 5.1.1 when the window closes (and you’ve saved your blobs), you’ll always be able to RE-restore to 5.1.1 again. This makes the 5.1.1 jailbreak a lot less fragile — you don’t have to worry about messing up your install with funky extensions or getting into a boot loop, because you can always RE-restore from 5.1.1 to 5.1.1 again (or from 5.0.1 to 5.0.1 again, etc). But once you fall off the 5.x train by restoring to 6.x, you’ll be stuck there until the next jailbreak."

So, the answer is no.

Does this mean if you are at 5.1.1 you can "reinstall" 5.1.1 again (with saved blobs) but if you go to IOS6 you cannot go back to 5.1.1 even with blobs saved?

I downgraded from 6 to 5.1.1 today without any saved blobs or whatever - I dont even know what they are

Apple is still signing 5..1.1 so ...

As long as 5.1.1 is signed, all current devices can go back to it.
Once Apple stops signing it, the scenario quoted above kicks in.

I, for one, hate that Apple does this and won't let us downgrade especially in light of all the complaints of lost map functionality etc...

I wish they would let us go back at a minimum one verson of their iOS whenever we like.

Any idea how much longer they will be signing this

From what tinyumbrella shows. it seems like apple stopped signing 5.1.1.

So since they stopped signing, is there ANY way I can get rid of ios 6? I decided to upgrade when I was drunk and omg, that was the stupidest thing I have ever done to my phone. I despise it, I just want 5.1.1 back or anything that isn't ios 6. Can anyone help me?

If you have the blobs saves with tinyumbrella, you can get back once there is an ios 6 jailbreak check at blog.iphone-dev.org for updates on that stuff.

What type of device do you have? Are you using an A4 device or A5?

This is incorrect. A jailbreak will likely not allow a downgrade. The 4S is not succeptable to the Limera1n exploit so even with 5.1.1 hash and APTicket file, there is no way to get the nonce file from Apple to downgrade.

so it sounds like we could really use a new bootroom exploit then?

I love the freedom the a4 iphone 4 has :D

well, i suppose the old bootrom 3gs has the most..

Weird, it says that on the iphone-dev blog, that you will be able to downgrade once the jailbreak is out, oh well my bad.

Damn it! Didn't get to save the SHSH blobs. Should've done it the other day - but was busy.

Oh well.

I have an iPad 2 on iOS6 and have 'full' blobs. But I have tried using Tiny Umbrella to downgrade, but can't. Am I stuck on iOS 6 or can I downgrade?
