In my experience, yes. The other one knew something was different.
I asked because my two eldest cats (both 19) passed about 2 weeks apart from each other in 2021. I had a really hard time dealing. My third cat who is 13 knew something is awfully wrong, still look for them in the house.

This little monster had us scared to death recently. We were almost positive she had the same intestinal lymphoma that killed our previous cat, Church. Massive and quick weight loss, etc. It turns out she has EPI and IBD. She's on steroids and B12 shots for the rest of her life and has to take a powder with her food so her pancreas will absorb nutrients the way it should, but otherwise.. perfectly healthy. We're trying to get her in the 9-10 lb range as quickly as possible. She got down to 6.5 lbs from around 9 within the a month or two.

My little ZoZo after her exploratory surgery. The first few days afterwards were scary. She was already down to 6.5 lbs and refusing to eat. Two days later, boom. It finally happened. She's eating like crazy now and already back up to 7.2 lbs only 3 weeks after surgery. Now, to wait for her fur to grow back so she doesn't look like she's wearing weird socks anymore. 😆

We sadly had to say goodbye to our precious little dude last week. He was doing well for his advancing age, but within a few short months, a very aggressive form of cancer slowed him down and was too far advanced to fight any longer. We were able to give him a final week at home with extra loving and attention, but we just couldn't let him linger on and suffer, as much as it broke our hearts. He passed over the rainbow bridge peacefully in my wife's arms, with me holding his front paw and gently rubbing his head as he always loved me doing.

Now there's a white, fluffy hole in our lives. There are so many little things I miss about him, from the subtle sound of him walking around our house to him waiting at the top of the stairs to greet us when we come home to how happy he was every morning when we woke up and paid attention to him.

This is one of the last photos I took of him.

He was the very best of boys and will live in our hearts forever.

I swear, we can't catch a break. We go from one pet scaring us to death to another. Mac is an old man now. He'll be 14 on December 3rd. For his age, he's always been very healthy. His last blood work the vet said they would think they were looking at bloodwork from a puppy. Well, last night he scared us out of nowhere. When we let him out of his (large) caged in area, the first thing he does is go onto the carpet or on the couch and lay on his back and wiggle around to scratch his back. On the carpet he's fine, but on the couch, sometimes he does get stuck and needs a little push to get back over.

I sat down next to him last night and he whined like he was stuck, so I nudged him to roll him over to his side like I always do. He kept whining and we immediately noticed he's completely unable to move his legs. Almost right away, his front legs go back to normal. His back legs just didn't budge at all. Then within a few seconds he peed on himself. We thought we were losing him and rushed him to a 24/7 vet that's about 4 miles away. By the time they took him back his legs were starting to work again. They said his vitals were all good but had us leave him over night. They said it'd be 10-12 hours to really take a good look at him, and we're currently waiting to hear back.

It's been a long ride with the most adorabe, most stubborn little butthole of a pet I've ever had... But I'm not ready for it to be over. Really hoping for good news, but at almost 14, I'm not expecting it. Hopefully we hear back soon...

UPDATE #1) They still haven't seen him yet but he is next on their list. They said he's up and walking around and just seems kind of stiff. Makes sense due to his age, he's been that way for a while. Waiting to hear an update once they see him.

Well, we were wrong about him hurting his back. It was congestive heart failure causing him to black out. We went to pick him up from the emergency vet to take him to his normal vet and he collapsed when they walked him out to us. They were able to keep him going and give us another day with him. We took him home yesterday and had the best day with him. By then he was so weak he couldn’t even walk but we stayed on the couch with him all evening, slept on the couch with him and spent all morning with him. He had one of our hands on him (if not both of us) at all times the last 16 hours or so or his life. He was loved and he knew it. We’ll miss little Sir Macintosh Mcbuppinstuff more than he could ever imagine.

We sure do have a lot of cat lovers around here! I'm just waiting for somebody to post a picture of their pet snake/crocodile or something equally freaky! :p

while not a snake… here are some past pets that I had, Ferrets and Sugar Gliders, both of which are great animAl’s but not for the lazy pet owner as they each have their own quirks and particular needs for time, companionship and care. I have had many Ferrets over the years (17-33 years ago) and just the 2 Gliders (15+ years ago), some Dogs and many Fish too. I loved all of them very much and each and every one of them had different personalities.

the Chihuahuas are mostly current pets, the chocolate one Coco is 13 (real creative I know, wanted to name her Oreo instead). The first beige Chihuahua was Gizmo died young due to a neighbor (such a sweet little dog) and the second one is Harley who‘s 12 (he absolutely loves his stuffed toys which the other 2 dogs really didn’t care for them much past puppy time).

I'm so sad to read your post. It was exactly what happened to my little chihuahua in 2021. He was 13 at the time, all was well. Then one night he lost control of his hind legs, the next thing he was breathing hard. We were in lockdown, and it was 11pm. I tried to locate a vet first thing in the morning and left 5 messages. But at around 3-4am he passed away in my arms.

I cried and cried and nothing could make me feel normal again. I took a walk in the park and almost passed out due to grief. I'm sure your dog understood the abundant love. And he loved you back equally. Take care.

I never thought owning another dog will help me ease the pain. But it has. I now have a Maltese and much to my surprise my love for him grows every single day!

(This was my chihuahua's last car ride. It was spring and the sun was out. He really enjoyed the beautiful day.:))

Super cute puppy! They never live long enough. No matter how long they live. Mac was les than two months from being 14. I've said for two years that I think he will stay healthy for a while, but when something hits, it'll hit hard and fast. And it did. He went from perfectly fine Sunday, to blacking out 3 times between Monday evening and early Wednesday morning. Luckily, he survived long enough to be put down in a very peaceful way. I can't imagine not having that and I hate that you didn't get that for yours. We gave him a burger, some cheese, even a Reese cup at the very end. He went out happy, and that's all I could hope for.

We knew in Spring when he had this cough it was likely his heart, but the vet said his heart sounded great and it was likely a collapsed trachea, that most dogs can live with just fine. So we let it go. Looking back though, he had the symptoms all along. Less active. Restless. Mostly napping or pacing back and forth. No interest in his toys. I'd give anything for another week with him. On the bright side, the vet we deal with for in home euthanasia is super, super great. They take care of having your pet cremated and they recently switched who they use for that, so you get them back much more quickly (He died around noon yesterday and we get him tomorrow between 4-6 PM) and you don't even have to go to your vet to pick them up. They deliver them back to you so it's one less thing to stress about.
