iPhone 4s wins local camera show
Well, I am pretty excited. I have been shooting thousands of iPhone 4 and 4s pictures for the last 19 months, so this is NOT news to me. But, about 5 months ago, mostly since I got the iP4s (October), I started printing my iPhone pictures, mostly as 8x10s. Well, for the local camera club summer photo show and contest, I really pushed an iPhone print to 11x14,
Not only did the print turn out pretty good, it won FIRST PLACE!!!
The irony is multileveled.
1) It would have been very difficult to get THIS exact shot with a regular camera with out a ladder. I happened to be walking buy a unique grove of Magnolia trees, and went almost eyelevel of a fresh bloom. But it was still too high for me to get my DSLR ABOVE the bloom to shoot down into the flower. I had a D7k and D700 around my neck. But I only used the iPhone for a few shots.
The shot was taken with TrueHDR, handheld.
2) The 2nd irony is that it took several hours to print. I had a real hard time with the color. The print that got framed turned out too yellow, in my opinion. So, I reprinted it after playing with the color, no color at all, selective color of just the center, etc. making several smaller prints, then printing a final print with more natural, but muted colors. I liked the 2nd print better, but accidentally framed the first, overly yellow print. When I discovered the error, I asked several people around me to look at the two, and it was overwhelmingly positive to keep the first print in the frame.
So, here it is:
Here is me in front of the actual printed photo...and the original on the iPhone:
