Well the girls "checking me out" thing was definitely an exaggeration. I think the last girl who checked me out was my girlfriend. Most girls don't like physics nerds, or guys who study old men's prostates for research.
And Australians are generally pretty racist, and there's no way Australian girls would check me out, so I'm safe there as well. My girlfriend doesn't really know what physics is, and doesn't care, which worked out well for me. I don't know how I'd find another girl if I lost my girlfriend. Maybe I would say, "Hi, I'm [Abstract], and I'm an accountant".

Prostates, not so much.Either is infinitely more interesting than accounting.

But which of the two do you do? Or do you do both? Or do you do one as your livelihood, and moonlight in the other one for fun?
I'll post in this thread after I buy my next Mac with an iSight and PhotoBooth. The old Powerbook 12" that I have now has neither.
But if I was an accountant, my work is something they would grasp, it's respectable, safe to tell their friends and family about, and isn't super-nerdy.
Here's how a conversation with a girl would go:
Me: "Hi, I'm [Abstract]"
Girl: "Hi, I'm Brooke. What do you study?" (just an example name, but I chose it because usually, girls named Brooke are hot)
Me: "Something related to physics. It's hard to explain. You?"
Girl: "Yeah, probably. Haha. I study psychology/graphic design/biology. What year are you in?"
Me: "My 8th."
Girl: "Eighth! Good grief, are you stupid or something?"
Me: "Yes, but that's not why. I'm doing my PhD."
Girl: "Wow..... *leans back a bit* Ok....haha, you must be a lot smarter than me."
Me: "Nah! Everyone thinks that. I'm really not that smart. Honest. If I was smart, would I be hanging around with these dumbasses?" *looks around at friends*)
Dumbass Friend: "Hey, tell her what you research!"
Girl: *looks at me*
Me: "Right. I study something related to prostate cancer."
Girl: "Oh......sounds important."
Me: "Well, maybe. I don't know."
Dumbass Friend: *walks over a bit drunk* "His Ph.D is in 'sticking his finger up people's butts' to check for prostate cancer. Haha, it's something like that, right?" *pats me on the back*
Me: "Haha, pretty much. I'm kidding. It's not like that at all. I'm just trying to find ways to minimize the chances that a patient will suffer from complications after a particular type of radiation treatment."
Girl: (didn't hear any of that, and is still stuck on the part about my fingers going up an old man's ass)
"So, do you just feel for something up there, or does a doctor do it?"
Me: "Well.....no. Anyway, I'm going to get another drink. Heh."

One time I was at school and there was this substitute gym teacher wearing the same shirt... and almost the same pants as me... and very similar shoes. My friend was sitting next to me looked at me, then at him, and then back at me, and then me and was like "...you're wearing the exact same thing as him".
