Self-described nerd here.
My business partner's dad is one of the main tech's on the Dragon for Space X and he dropped off some mission patches.

There is really a cheesemonger profession ?

In the US, most people get their cheese and lunchmeat at a supermarket.

Yes, in Europe, there is.

Invariably, I get my meat in a butcher's, - never, ever ever from a supermarket - and purchase my cheeses from a cheesemonger (never a supermarket, the quality of both meat and cheese is usually vastly inferior to what one can buy in a cheesemonger's, or butcher's) or a specialist cheese stall at the farmers' market I visit most weeks when I am home.

Yes, there is, even here in the US. I go to a few shops myself of maybe 30 in a 100 mile radius. It's going to be location dependent, obviously.

I would have been surprised if - at least in some of the more sophisticated cities - it was not possible to find a good cheesemonger, or shops specialising in selling cheeses, not least, as, in recent years, a number of US cheeses have begun to win international awards.

Very often, a good cheesemonger will also sell good quality cold cuts - such as Parma or Serrano and/or Iberico ham, excellent salamis, and so on.

We have some excellent cheese shops here in Oxford.
Too pricey for me though.

I will be buying some Stilton for Christmas however.

Sometimes, cheesemongers', or specialist cheese shops, will have two or three cheeses on a special offer each week (though the cheeses on offer vary by the week) - something along the line of 20% off two or three specific cheeses.

This is a very good way of buying some seriously good quality cheese without having to pay full price for it.

Back with my SpaceX related items. Again, my business partners father is a lead engineer at SpaceX and we recently did our office family gift exchange.
So he brought me a Remove before Flight tag which I now use as my keychain. I was an avionics tech in the Air Force for almost 10 years and we used real red tags similar to this EVERYWHERE in the aircraft.

And then the kicker was a SpaceX challenge coin that commemorates the day SpaceX sent the Dragon and it's first docking with the International Space Station. The sun on the coin is a tiny piece of the material that was on board the Dragon that flight and these are meant to be employees only directly connected to that mission, coins. This one has never been removed from it's clear case and I think it will stay that way.

0.60 inches of rain. Just warm enough to melt the snow but not enough to thaw the ground so it has ponded a bit in a low spot in one of the driveways. Can't wait for the skating rink which will apparently be constructed Sunday night into wee hours of Monday. At that point the January thaw-impostor is dethroned and January the real-winter is restored. Until Monday afternoon, when a warm front brings a high of 43ºF and I will get my driveway pond back. So I guess what I'm really getting free here is a rollercoaster.

You have my sympathies. Better stock up on grit.
