Funny now when I think about the day's when even 1GB seemed insane. I wonder where we'll be in 10 years. :)

Like in the G3 times? When G4's came out 2 GB was a lot but now 2-4 GB is standard. Remember when we had 80 MB (yes megabytes) hard drives on laptops?

What's that model like??? I am thinking of buying another one... either the Base quad-core or the one that you have... My other-half needs it for work... so I was just wondering... Thanks!!

It runs pretty quickly for the work that I do (computer animation) because all my apps are multi-threaded and support hyper threading giving me 16 cores total but it's quite slow when it encounters a single threaded app (I think with the CPU's turbo system turned on it only goes from 2.26 to about 2.3Ghz but I need to check to make sure).

If you work with any apps from Adobe then it's not as quick as it should be but that's Adobe being Adobe and should be fixed in CS5 or greater .

From recommendations that I've heard get the quad if your apps are not optimized for 8+ cores and I think it hits a max of 16GB of RAM (4x4GB). I personally feel that getting the 8 core is a little more future proof as more apps are heading towards multi-core use and in time having the added cores can save you time and money plus you can get up to 32GB of RAM (perhaps more) of course this all depends on how often you change your computers.

As for problems I have two to mention:
1) I sometimes get a slight buzz emitting from the case, there seems to be some kind of vibration coming from inside not sure what it is depending on the noise level of your work environment this can be annoying but when it doesn't buzz it's whisper quiet.
2) This is more a software problem than anything else since it's affecting the entire line of Mac products, my Mac doesn't seem to want to go to sleep by itself.

Thanks.... I don't think that you really got me.. I already have two... the old one (3.2GHZ, 32GB) and the new one (2.93GHZ, 32GB) so... I know about the problems... or well.. annoyances...

I am asking because my Wife would like to get a Mac Pro for her work.. she's a doctor... but her Department renews their computers every 7 years.. so... she wants a good one!! I am obviosly not going to go out and buy one the same spec as mine... but a Quad-Core one with 6GB's sounds good... or an 8-Core one with 4GB's... and of course... we can just upgrade later...

Thanks...

Don't know... it's strange sometimes!! Maybe if you have Bootcamp setup that might be the reason???

It shows if you have more than one HD/partition attached to the computer. Mine always shows it because of my restore partition.
