Nice pictures, I especially like the second one. Where was it taken?
And do you happen to use flickr?

For some reason the pictures are not coming up right now and I forget which one was first and 2nd. The building is the Air Force Chapel in Colorado Springs and the construction shot was the building of the new Northwest Airlines Terminal in Detroit. Just google Detroit Metro Airport and look for a picture with the air traffic control tower and you will recognize that crazy UFO looking building in the back of my picture.

I do not use Flickr but have wanted to for a long time. I actually have only recently gotten involved in the digital aspect of photography. I mean dont get me wrong I have used photoshop for a long time and know how to use digital cameras, its just that 99% of my photography revolved around film and darkroom work.

Damn I had no idea how hard it would be tracking down a picture of the air traffic control tower in Detroit. I figured I would just find one real quick and post it up for ya and I had to do some serious searching. I wound up finding it on Flickr, lol. Anyways here it is.

I really think you might enjoy Flickr, and it would definitely help you stay motivated to keep scanning those negatives.
Do you do professional photography work? You mentioned a studio in your earlier post.

Yeah I shoot for a living. I shoot mostly architecture these days but used to shoot product and recreation vehicles. I prefer the architecture so I am actually right where I want to be. I actually share the studio with a handful of other photographers and while I dont really use it for business anymore, I do like having it available for personal work.

I will definitely be joining Flickr soon. Ill send ya a PM when I do and if you have an account there you can shoot me over your username.

Just upgraded from a point and shoot

IMG_0424.jpg

from left to right- Carl Zeiss 50mm f/1.4,Canon 35mm f/1.4L,Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L, Canon EOS 5d mark 2, Canon 70-200 f/4L, Canon EF 100 Macro, Canon EF 50mm f/1.4
Sry for the crappy picture, was taken with point and shoot

And yes, L primes are where it's at. I'm lusting after the 24 f/1.4L, and the 45mm tilt shift right now. That would put me at 24, 35, 45TS 50, and 85 - all L primes. There's just nothing like them!

While this was without a doubt true a few years back, its simply isnt the case anymore. The top of the line zoom lenses being made today rival even the best primes being made. Even wide open its become increasingly difficult to tell the difference and its basically to the point now that you have to zoom into the picture at least 4x to see the difference between some of them. Unless you have a specific use for a prime that you just cant do without, the zooms are increasingly the way to go especially for non-pro photographers who dont want to lug a bunch of different lenses around with them. The pro's/con's arguments are quickly stacking up in a lot of the zooms favor.

and a Nikon P80, but I can't find the charger and the image quality is not good enough to justify getting a new one so it's collecting dust in the mean time.

how is the rubber grip on the XSI? I have a XT and the "grip" is rubbing off

I use the grip on my XSi with two batteries and it's awesome. I shoot about 100 miscellaneous shots a day, and haven't charged it in about a month and a half.

For some reason I've been thinking about getting the SD1000. The SD series P&S are great. As a Nikon DSLR shooter I have to say Canon has the market on P&S.

I haven't seen a single zoom that can match the image quality of any of my primes, including my 70-200 f/2.8L IS. It comes close at 200mm @ f/2.8.

I am a pro photographer, and I'll use whatever gives me the best quality. If I were just walking around taking pictures for fun, sure, I'd use a zoom lens. Probably the 24-105L.

I shoot wide open about 90% of the time, and the super fast apertures of all my primes can't be replaced. There's just nothing like background diffusion at 35mm.

That said, I'll never try to convince anyone I'm right, and they are wrong. It makes no difference to me what other photogs use, I like primes.

How do you like the Leica? I am considering picking one up to replace my D80 because I hate carrying it around when I am traveling.

Nothing fancy here, I just bought my DSLR a few days ago. It's the Canon EOS 450D (Rebel XSi), with the kitlens (EF-S 18-55 IS 3.5/5.6).

Yeah, I think that if there is one argument that has potential to be bigger than the dumb "Canon vs. Nikon" debate is the prime vs. zoom debate.

No one can deny the image quality and bokeh and pros of carrying around nothing but primes, but most people need the flexibility of a good zoom. I know the Nikon 17-55/2.8 is absolutely beautiful as is the 14-24/2.8, but even just a 14/2.8 -- can't be beat!
