This is over Wi-Fi on a MacBook Pro w/ Retina 15" with an AirPort Time Capsule and Comcast Blast! 105/10. It used to be 50/10, but Comcast (surprisingly!) bumped it up for free two months ago. We're paying ~$45/mo.

For those of you who are curious, I did it like this:
Code:
wget -O /dev/null http://speedtest.wdc01.softlayer.com/downloads/test10.zip
And 'speedtest' is an alias in my .zshrc file.

Using a mobile broadband connection that offers "up to 7.2 Mb/sec". Not even 5% of that. Neither phone nor cable to my apartment building.

Cloud computing, streaming movies, downloading Mavericks, etc….. forget it.

There are other ways to stay entertained in Bangkok.

I am 900 km south of Bangkok, thankfully. It does nothing for me.

Thailand is very Bangkok centric, which underlies many of the country's problems. That includes telecom and internet services to the provinces, which are routed through the capital. Even for land line internet connections around these parts a couple of Mb/sec is about where it is at.

It is enough to do some streaming but it drops to about 20Mbit when watching TV (HD channels use about 8Mbit).

I will not even start on the upload speed...

Everyone here has such fast internet speeds! I live in Urban Australia, and I get 10mbps down and 0.9 up :O
For some reason, Speedtest still give me a B...
My 3G sucks too, major carrier, great coverage and still terrible.
