never used to be a problem in my Windows days, but since owning my 27" iMac its near impossible to find nice ones @ 2560x1440

Google is your best bet. Just search for images in your resolution.

Anyways, update. I found the 'Simple Wallpapers' thread which led to me changing my wallpaper again.

There is a checkbox at the bottom at the Window where you normally switch your wallpaper to activate the transparency of your menu bar.
