It's not like there are a bunch of titties being shown, just some random bikini girls. Voted no.

Then skip the thread. I don't get the issue.

I think I might be able to explain at least part of the issue, at least as I perceive it.

Some threads are labeled NSFW, and I agree, it's easy to avoid those if you're in an environment where you feel what you view on your screen might be judged out of context and/or might result in problems.

On the other hand, NSFW is very clearly a subjective thing. People have different boundaries, and what's acceptable at one place of work might not be so at another.

While I don't really have a strong opinion on the issue, I don't have any problem seeing that - at least in some contexts - there is an issue. And as such, it's a reasonable thing to bring up in a thread.

The biggest problem is not knowing if there is any NSFW stuff in a thread. The NSFW tag does help with this though and probably is enough. However, there are also people who don't want to see NSFW stuff at home either. Do remember why this forum has a "no nude" rule because that's the same reason why some don't want NSFW stuff ;)

Ok. Let me coin it another way. If I had a 13 year old son (the minimum age for this forum) and I thought it was a family friendly forum. Would I like him viewing the NSFW picture threads at the moment?

It's all hypothetical but I would have at a guess that the answer would be no.

Then shut them down. It won't be the first or last time something happens here that is not a fan favorite. If there is a valid reason for and against then the admins/mods should decide and we'll all have to deal with it. I lose nothing; I am not looking at the thread to see tits and ass because I have them and they're brilliant.

That's certainly one possibility, though not the only one, and it's after all why it's being discussed.

Sorry OP. I like my desktop woman. That aside, as long as they aren't nudes, who cares? Thirteen year old kids will have seen it all before. The videos in the UK pop charts alone see to that.

I like the middle option. Dedicate an NSFW thread to images with humans, and keep ones with no humans in them at all in the regular thread. (I say no HUMANS just to keep the line completely free of blur. In some societies, they cover all but the eyes, and this way the worst you'd see is a naked dog, cat, or parrot...) :p

From what I've seen, it's almost always easy to tell which threads might contain NSFW material, even if it's not labeled as such. Don't read them if you're out and about/at work and worried about people seeing you read them. It's as easy as that.

I know I don't feel comfortable viewing these on a work computer.

Lol being a 20 year old male college student doesn't help justify my point of view. It is what it is. Do you really think a 13 yr old boy will see his first bikini picture on a MR thred......if he can create an account here and manage browsing forums he's probably familiar with google and things like that as well.

Also not trying to say a 13 yr old is a horn-dog. But seriously the NSFW pictures/threads here are inappropriate but not that inappropriate when you look at Internet as a whole.

I think it's perfectly normal to think a 13 yr old is a horn-dog, it's part of our DNA. Too much "christian" morality get's in the way of who we are and leads to debates like this. The bottom line, if your "morals" find it bad to see semi nude women and your justification is because you're "at work" maybe your "morals" would tell you reading the forums and targeting threads labeled "NSFW" is not "morally responsible".

So let's just call it what it is! (hint: It's not because you're "at work")

*edit: directed at OP, not person I quoted.

I'm not a fan of nsfw, but I can't really say I've seen anything that I consider nsfw in the last few desktop threads. The rule is primarily targeted at keeping porn off the forum and the mods have done a great job of killing the links I have reported.

In general, I think surfing the net at work is a waste of time. That's what home computers are for. For the record I'm 64.

In regards to a 13 year old finding bikini girls on a moderated forum, I ran the term "Bikini" through Bing images and got something like 70 million returns.

I think we are at the point, that anyone can find anything on the internet, no matter what blocks or limits are induced.

Yeah I don't get why someone wants a woman to stare at but who am I to tell people otherwise? Instead of stopping it I voted for a separate thread. That way everyone can get inspiration where ever they are without having to browse through stupid pictures that's supposed to... I don't know, give the user a hardon? Haha...

The idea is to post your desktop if someones desktop is a girl then post the girl...

Also you should be WORKING at work not on MR

Also nudes are banned and there is nothing on here that isnt really viewable on facebook nowadays...

I find it interesting that so many people really care what I choose to do at work. Again that was just an example. That was not the reason I was posting this.

As someone who works in the technology space, I really don't see how reading macrumors is any different than reading the WSJ though, but that's a different discussion...

As a parent it is your job to be a parent. It's not the internet's job to parent your kids. That being said if you don't want your kid seeing NSFW then you need to step up and monitor them and stop blaming other people for your short comings...... Just saying.

You're not supposed to work on breaks, what are you - a workaholic?

Just try to read the thread and the OP's later responses if you want to argue.

I laughed out loud at the last bit. Awesome!
