Why do people buy Beats headphones/earphones when you can get 2x better quality for the same price?

I know, I know, I know.

Broadly speaking, I am in full agreement with your statement, but I suspect that the answer to your (rhetorical) question is that the marketing behind Beats is very slick, very successful and that they have become the must have accessory for a lot of youngsters who may wish to appear cool.

Because they're super well designed and sound quite decent. They attract a lot of buyers with no audio experience or simply people that care about looks first and foremost.

I've found myself using my Bose QC2i's more than my B&W C5's because they are quite simply the most comfortable in ear phones I've ever used.

Yeah but everyone will tell you they suck and you pay a premium price for the name. Funny enough everyone on here is an apple fan :p

Managedged to get a pair of Bose QC15's off ebay for a steal so decided to buy some new in ear headphones, the new Bose soundtrue in ears, very nice sounding! QC's for long journey travel, AE2's for around the house, soundtrue's for work commute

Beats Solo 2, black.

Yeah, I AM THAT KIND OF GUY who appreciates a pair of stylish earphones while I'm at the library or at work with a a sound good enough to bring me pleasure.

Sold my Beats by Dre Detox a few weeks back and recently picked up a pair of Bowers and Wilkins P7's. They sound phenomenal

I'm glad to see people willing to spend 200+ on headphones. Beats or whatever. I took back the bowers p5, it hurt my ears too much. I'm using the sennheiser over esr momentum currently. But I'm probably gonna give the p7 a go. Everyone has their own taste with design and sound. I prefer a more neutral hesdphone with a mild emphasis on the bass. Oh the topic of beats, I think the solo 2 is the best hesdphone that beats released.

I'm actually really enjoying my urbeats. They are VERY comfortable. They block out noise and stay in my ear regardless of what I'm doing. The sound is good, probably not perfect but good. I'm happy with them. If you are in the market for some "cheaper" ($99) in ear phones with mic and play controls check them out.

you should try out the sennheiser momentum OVER ear. I had the same problem with P5 like you do, and plus I'm a glasses wearer so I really need super comfort headphones. The momentum OVER ear does that, I can wear it like 2-3 hours straight without feeling anything! amazing. Oh and it has little bass emphasis too :) , plus it has red cord edition that mimics beats, looks and sound better imo

I don't know if this is the right thread, but can anyone recommend decent in-ear headphones around the $100 range?

I used to have the Klipsch S4i; decent sound, great controls and reliability, albeit a bit tangly. Sadly I lost them.

I then got UrBeats. Cute design and great isolation, but my god they have horrible build quality. I have already went through four warranty issues with these earphones, all for the same thing: the wires on the edge of the jack get crimped during regular use. After a few months, the remote doesn't work and/or the left earphones stop working. This has happened with my original purchase, two replacements (through Beats warranty) as well as my fiancee's earphones (same ones). This issue happened again recently, and with my warranty already over, I'm just done dealing with them.

I'm not a audiophile/music-snob at all, so I do not need the best of the best. It seems like there are a few users here with RHAs, but I've read only decent reviews on them in terms of reliability.

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Skullcandy aviators. Probably the most comfortable, and the most sweet sounding headphones I've had.
They were premium at the time. Used to be about £150, but you can pick them up now for about £50 as they are not current models Skullcandy manufactures.

I compared these to the beats before buying. I consider Beats overpriced and bass heavy, unusable in my opinion for Classical, Rock and Metal.

He said he was using the "over ears"?

Sold my Beats Pro's a while back when I needed some cash, and hadn't had a decent pair in a while, after seeing how many people were happy with these and reading all the positive reviews I went out to try (and buy) a pair of them also.. pretty happy with them!

Glad to see so many P7's in here. They have been my go to for almost a year. I also have B&W C5's. Great sound, but not as comfortable. I have Sennheiser HD650's. They sound great, but being open I don't get to use them that much. They are also a bit of a hassle because they need an amp to really sound good, so I'm less likely to get them out. I have been wanting some wireless cans. Earbuds are just not as comfortable to me as an over the ear. I was pretty much down to the Beats Studio and the Parrot Zik. I chose the Beats for their smaller overall design and portability. I just picked them up last night and so far I'm very happy with them. I just wish they didn't have the slight static sound from the noise canceling. Sound wise they sound very good. Not the boomy Beats of days past. Still may try the Zik's, but they end up more expensive by a fair amount since you need to get a carry case, which comes with the Beats.

Did I already post mine?

Super super sound. Gregorian has never sounded better than through the cans of my AKGs :)

So much better than Beats for almost a third the price. in other words, no surprises.
